Attending a conference with a toddler!

This week I've been attending the Humanist Celebrants' Conference, which is being held online again this year. Being online is great as it means I can attend, but does mean I am joined by a tiny person.

The at home set up needs to be quite different, usually with "Frozen" on in the background. It also means I'm joined on screen when asking questions or in work groups.

I love it when a plan comes together!

When you meet families and you just know how to set the tone they're looking for in their ceremony.

I love getting feedback like this as I know my job has been done well.

My aim is to create the ceremony perfect for your occasion!

First IN PERSON meeting since what feels like forever!

I feel like I've been released!

I love meeting families and chatting with them about their plans and being in person with them really helps more with connecting with them and understanding them.

Happy World Humanist Day! 🎉

Today is a day humanists around the planet celebrate our human achievements and promote the goals of kindness, freedom, and equality!

You do not need to be Humanist to have a Humanist ceremony, in fact many people aren't, and I love that they can include the traditions important to them in a personalised and meaningful ceremony.

But why not find out how Humanist you are with the quiz:

Any language meaningful to you can be included in your ceremony!

Weather it's readings in French, or vows/promises in Russian.
Or using titles in the language you use rather than translated can be important, such as Oma, 祖父, ciocia, or taid. Or even SoS or atar.

(Points to people who can work all those out).

If there's a language important to you, or your family and you want to include it then you should.

Some ceremonies translate the whole ceremony, some have people always using their native language, other ceremonies keep parts private by using a different language.

I may only fluent in English but I've done ceremonies with many other languages included including one half in Spanish which I spent a long time ensuring all of my pronunciation was perfect.
One with promises in German which I translated after they were spoken.
Even one with a reading in Scots with a jokey translation.
I remember the joy on a grandmother's face when I correctly referred to her in her own language as she is not any grandmother, she is Abuela to that family.

It's a level of respect you get from a Humanist Ceremony and the level of detail which I find important as a celebrant.

So excited that there's now a timeframe to restart naming Ceremonies!

I've been missing the wonderful joy that comes from namings and we could really do with a bit of that now!

Although virtual ceremonies are still an option and are a great way to include people from many different countries.

*These are the earliest dates that these could happen. They could be pushed back.

**They also depend on the venue being able to open.
