Last night, our Director, Warren, attended the Festival Supplier Awards, where we were honoured to be shortlisted for Best Crew Provider!

A huge congratulations to the winner, and to all the finalists! 👏

Being one of just four crewing companies recognised is a testament to the dedication of our team, and the work we do across the festival industry.

Here’s to another year of exceptional crew and festivals! 💪

And they're off! Our 2024 Impact Accounts have officially been sent out to our qualifying clients!

We've invited our Impact Account holders to celebrate with us on social media!

So watch out for posts with images like these in the coming weeks!

Each and every year, our Impact Accounts provide qualifying clients with a breakdown of the social and environmental impact that they've directly helped to generate.

This is a key moment for Connection Crew and our clients, as we reflect on the incredible work we’ve done together and look forward to a more impactful year to come.

These Impact Accounts cover:

Social Impact

Our clients support our mission simply by getting out on site with us. Their work generates direct social impact which we measure in hours of work delivered by our Impact Crew — individuals who have been affected by homelessness.

This is the heart of what we do: creating opportunities for people who need them the most.

Environmental Impact and Sustainability

Alongside social impact, we account for the unavoidable environmental impact of crew activities, measured in kg of CO2e accounted for onsite, so that we can aim to remove and reduce it.

In 2024, partnership with Impact Account holders helped contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future, supporting their reporting of Scope 3 emissions while demonstrating leadership in sustainability.

On the way for 2025

As we celebrate Connection Crew’s 20th anniversary this year, we’re looking to build even greater impact in 2025.

We're proud to announce that the Carbon Levy will begin funding behaviour change programs aimed at reducing emissions at the crew level. These initiatives will take us beyond carbon offsetting and into proactive reduction, amplifying the environmental impact of every project.

We want to thank every client, partner, and supporter who has been part of this journey.

We'll be sharing our full 2024 Impact Report soon, sharing more about our work and the overall impact we've generated as a social enterprise over the past year.

The entire Connection Crew team is deeply saddened at the passing of Angus Chisholm, who was laid to rest by friends and family today.

Angus was incredibly talented and had a deep love for the arts — both onstage and behind the scenes. He was an actor, voiceover artist, crew member, stage manager / theatre technician, a trustee and former Technical Manager at the Finborough Theatre, and so much more.

Angus touched many peoples' lives and was universally well-liked by everyone who met him.

For those who might not have had that distinct pleasure, our director Warren wishes to tell you that, "Angus was the type of person who you called for the big things. He was always cheerful, lovely, kind, patient, and charming. I'm personally very saddened by his loss."

This is a personal loss for many of the Connection Crew team. Having joined as a freelancer in March 2018, Angus worked with us for five years before moving to Brighton. Much of his time with us was spent as a crew chief.

Another of our crew chiefs, Sherona Bailey, said of Angus, "regardless of who you were or where you came from, he treated everyone with the same level of respect and care."

Angus was one of those rare and wonderful people who had a positive impact on everyone he met.

His death is a massive loss to all he leaves behind.

We've been shortlisted in the Best Crewing Company category for the Festival Supplier Awards 2025! 😎

Every year we help to bring a huge range of festivals and outdoor events to life for our incredible clients.

This year, we were especially excited to see that as well as demonstrating top service to clients, the Festival Supplier Awards asked entrants to talk about their contributions to sustainability.

It's safe to say that we had an awful lot to speak about - for both service and sustainability 🙌

Congratulations to all the other shortlisted companies and organisations.

We're looking forward to celebrating with you all at the end of January!

🌍 It's Day 4 of People & Planet First Week! 🌍

We're out at today, catching up with everyone and sharing our knowledge of driving sustainability through events.

So. we thought: what better time to give you more information about where that expertise comes from!? 🤔

Because we're more than a multi-award-winning crewing company with 19 years under our belts!

We're a Community Interest Company (that's why you'll often see CIC at the end of our name) 🙌

Social Enterprise UK says:

"Social enterprises are combining commercial success with real social and environmental impact [...]

Many outperform other businesses when it comes to growth and product innovation, reducing inequalities, creating jobs and building a more inclusive economy.

Our research shows that social enterprises are more representative of wider society than other businesses."

🙌

At Connection Crew, our mission is simple:

To provide opportunities for people affected by homelessness or facing barriers to work, to access training, mentoring and work in our crew.

Ultimately, our goal is to help end homelessness and reduce inequality by supporting people to access work that works for them in the long run.

We believe that to do right for people, we need to do right by the planet.

From mapping and reducing our carbon footprint and waste, embracing eco-friendly practices, to working with partners who share our commitment to sustainability, we’re committed to helping build a healthier planet for future generations.

🌍 Kicking off People and Planet First Week! 🌍

How best to do this? 🤔

Probably by sharing that we're People and Planet First Verified. 😎

What does this mean?

People and Planet First is a verification and a global collective that’s accelerating the transition to an economy — one that puts people and the planet first.

Through a network of trusted partners, they're transforming business and building an economy for everyone to thrive within the means of our living planet.

Every enterprise with the People and Planet First verified badge holder solves social and/or environmental problems and reinvests the majority of profit for the many, not the few.

Doing our part to reduce our impact on the environment, while boosting our social impact is so, so important.

We're proud to be dual-accredited by Social Enterprise UK and People and Planet First.

🌟 We’re excited to introduce our new blog series: Sustainability in Action! 🌟

Social and Environmental sustainability are core values at Connection Crew, and we’re proud to team up with clients who share our commitment.

Our first feature is Menier Venues!

By partnering with Menier, we’re not only delivering exceptional event support but also making a real impact for people and the planet.

With a dedication to sustainability, community engagement, and making choices for good, Menier Venues is an inspiring example of how businesses can do good.

About the Sustainability in Action Series

Our Sustainability in Action series is dedicated to exploring the impactful partnerships and practices that drive positive social and environmental change.

Through these stories, we aim to inspire and educate, sharing how Connection Crew and our clients are setting new standards for sustainability in the events industry.

Whether it’s through eco-friendly choices, supporting people affected by homelessness, reducing our carbon footprint, choosing sustainable materials, or reducing food and general waste, each step has the power to make a massive difference.

Follow along as we highlight the people, projects, choices, and practices making a difference for people and planet.

We’ll be breaking down the jargon, asking why carbon calculators give such varying answers, doing some general myth-busting, and being transparent about the things that leave even the most seasoned sustainability experts scratching their heads.

We're excited to announce that we've added a new accreditation to our decks.

We're now Good Market Approved!

That means we're: Good for People. Good for the Planet.

Caring about both is built into who we are and what we do.

We'll be talking about our accreditations (and what they mean for our work, clients, crew, and more) next week!

🎉 It’s Living Wage Week! 🎉

As a social enterprise and one of over 15,000 Living Wage UK accredited employers, we’re proud to be part of a movement that’s making a real difference across the UK.

This year’s theme, A Step Beyond, celebrates those who’ve recently joined us on this journey.

With 12.9% of UK employees still earning below the real Living Wage, it’s vital that more companies support initiatives that push for change.

Fair wages are good for people, businesses, and society as a whole.

Connection Crew is committed to paying the London Living Wage.

Living Wage Week is an opportunity for us and fellow accredited employers to show why the Living Wage matters.

A special thank you to the Living Wage Foundation and all the amazing businesses and individuals championing this cause, raising awareness and paving the way for a more sustainable, inclusive workforce across the UK.

Were incredibly privileged to support LarMac LIVE and Projects delivering Es Devlin’s large-scale installation CONGREGATION.

At St Mary le Strand from 3– 9 October, CONGREGATION was created in partnership with UK for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and developed in collaboration with King's College London and The Courtauld.

This powerful piece was brought to life through the medium of chalk and charcoal, with portraits of 50 Londoners who have experienced forced displacement from their homelands, and who co-authored the work, sharing the unique talents and perspectives they bring to their new home in London.

Live choir performances accompanied the installation, from choirs including Genesis Sixteen, the London Bulgarian Choir, the African Cultural Gospel Choir UK and the Choir of Kings Collage London.

We’re so proud to be part of projects that create both cultural and community impact, supporting meaningful employment opportunities that empower individuals to rebuild their lives while contributing to inspiring work like CONGREGATION.

Connection Crew delivered 113 hours of direct social impact to the project through our onsite work.

You can read more about the piece here: https://courtauld.ac.uk/news-blogs/2024/congregation-a-new-large-scale-installation-by-artist-es-devlin-opens-at-st-mary-le-strand/

Today, it's We Wear Red Day!

We Wear Red Day is an initiative put together by Show Racism the Red Card.

The UK's leading anti-racism education charity was established in 1996, partly from a donation made by then Newcastle United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop.

In the 1990s, Hislop was approached by a group of young people shouting racist abuse.

Then they realised who he was, and started asking for autographs.

Show Racism The Red Card was borne out of Shaka's realisation that he could use his status, recognition, and influence to make a difference.

Now, SRtRC still works with high-profile footballers, but also with other sports and personalities.

They deliver training and educational workshops to more than 50,000 young people and adults each year.

How do they ask people to support?

By wearing something with red on the 18th of October each year, and if you can, by donating here:

https://www.justgiving.com/theredcard

This year is the 10th Anniversary of We Wear Red Day.

The goal is for 1 million people to wear red - to mirror the 1 million people who have engaged in SRtRC's training programmes.

Today, red is more than a fashion statement.

It's a reminder that collective actions can change hearts and minds, impacting lives beyond our immediate community.

Wearing red for a day is a small thing to do, to keep in mind the importance of advocating for a culture where everyone feels valued and isn't discriminated against.

1 unforgettable bank holiday weekend at Rockstar Energy Drink presents Creamfields!

Connection Crew returned to the Daresbury Estate this August, proudly delivering for LarMac LIVE and Projects and Cream.

Since beginning in 1998 as a one-day event for 25,000 people, Creamfields has grown into a four-day, camping-friendly festival that hosts over 70,000 dance music fans each day.

We've had the privilege of crewing this incredible festival since 2021, providing trusted hands for audio, lighting, video, rigging, and staging across the build and run.

And as always, there's more to the story!

By partnering with us for Creamfields 2024, LarMac and Cream Global helped deliver 363 hours of Living Wage work for our Impact Crew – individuals affected by homelessness.

Additionally, our Carbon Levy scheme accounted for 712.8kg CO2e emissions generated by our crew, helping to boost sustainability goals and continue to minimise our environmental footprint – while driving positive impact through the supply chain.

We're already counting down to 2025 – see you next year Creamfields!

A big shout out to our team at Rockstar Energy presents Creamfields this year.

34 of our crew members saw off Storm Lilian to support the brilliant CF24 team and get the show safely up, running and taken down again.

The team were on a mix of stage-work, set-up support for video walls, lighting, rigging, staging, load-in and load-out, and more - thanks for always providing the service - whatever the weather!
