Rites of passage such as birth, marriage and death have been marked over many centuries and across diverse cultures. Humanist Ceremonies offer those of us who are not religious a way of marking such major changes in our lives in a way that is meaningful and sincere. We believe it’s important that we mark such occasions with honesty, warmth and affection, using words and music that are appropriate

to the lives, values and personalities of those concerned. Our network of around 450 celebrants have been trained and accredited to ensure they write and conduct beautiful, unique, appropriate ceremonies. Each of our ceremonies is individual, created specifically those involved. Inclusive occasions, they are focused on universal values and a concern for humanity rather than religious belief or superstition. There are no rules about what can or can’t be included within your ceremony. Our celebrants will work with you to plan and create an occasion that best meets your needs.

'Our story is the story of the Universe.' 🪐

A brilliant humanist perspective from Professor Brian Cox in the Little Book of Humanist Funerals, a great little book for finding inspiration and readings for a non-religious funeral.

Brilliant to see that Design Week has shared the story of our colourful new brand! It was great to work with The Workroom and include input from our celebrants to create our new visual identity.

The Workroom has created a new visual identity for Humanist Ceremonies, an organisation that provides trained celebrants for non-religious weddings, funerals and naming ceremonies.

“Well, if it rains, then we’ll get wet!”

Summer isn't the only time you can have an outside wedding, as this beautiful November ceremony proves!

Lauren and Chris’s humanist ceremony took place at a castle in Northern Ireland with handfasting, hiking poles, and history. ❤

Lauren and Chris chose to tie the knot outdoors in Northern Ireland in November. Read about how hiking poles and hand fasting were part of their special day.

While religious funerals are typically conducted by faith leaders, a non-religious funeral is different. In a non-religious funeral service, the person who leads the ceremony is known as a funeral celebrant or officiant. For a celebration of life without the religious elements, a trained and accredited humanist celebrant is the ideal choice for a meaningful and memorable ceremony!

The role of a celebrant is to create a unique and heartfelt service focused on celebrating the life and legacy of the person who has died, offering family and friends a chance to say goodbye in a way that feels authentic.

Find out more about what a celebrant does and how to find one local to you! 👇

At a funeral ceremony, friends and family gather together to remember, pay tribute to and say goodbye to someone special to them. At a non-religious funeral the person who leads this ceremony is the funeral officiant. Here we explain what a humanist funeral celebrant is and how to find a celebrant.

"For anyone planning a humanist wedding, my advice would be simply to stay true to who you are as a couple. Trust yourselves and your gut feelings."

We love this wedding advice from Lauren.

On this day in 1849 (175 years ago), George Jacob Holyoake conducted a secular naming ceremony for Mazzini Truelove, son of radical publisher Edward Truelove - a precursor of our modern humanist naming ceremonies.

Humanist ceremonies have an interesting and long history, read more about this historic naming ceremony on the Humanist Heritage website.

A humanist funeral offers a non-religious, highly personalised way to honour someone’s life. Each ceremony is crafted by a highly trained Humanist Ceremonies celebrant, who will take the time to learn about the person’s passions and personality, ensuring that the ceremony reflects them in an authentic way.

These ceremonies provide an inclusive space to remember and celebrate, focusing entirely on the individual’s life and legacy without religious content. Humanist funerals create a meaningful goodbye that is unique to the person and offers comfort to everyone present.

Did you know that The Little Book of Humanist Weddings features meditations from some of our own brilliant Humanist Ceremonies wedding celebrants?

Like this one from humanist celebrant Zena Birch Zena Birch - Bespoke Humanist Ceremonies.

Book with the text: 'When a couple chooses a humanist wedding ceremony, they are very much thinking beyond the commercial wedding catchphrase of it being 'your day'. I haven't yet crafted a ceremony which hasn't been about 'everyone's day'. Each of my couples have come alive telling me about their guests, their friends and family, their community and network. Their public declaration is as much about the guests who are witnessing as it is about them.'

What happens if your celebrant is ill on the day of your ceremony?
Our celebrants, although amazing, are still only human and at this time of year, with viruses in the air, it's an important question. And one we can answer!

Humanist Ceremonies is a network of celebrants who are all trained to the same high standards to deliver personal non-religious ceremonies. If your chosen celebrant is unable to deliver a ceremony, another of our trained and accredited humanist celebrants will be able to step in to make sure that the ceremony is delivered as planned!
