That was our first year at Spitalfields.

Annie and I practically started this journey together last year. We argued, cried, made up, and done it all over again. My treasure 🌹

Enter Rachel, the engine of our team. A gentle genius with an unsurpassed creative brilliance. Took our little flower business to a different level. In short, the, governor. 🌹

Joachim, a young man with a great academic future waiting for him. He's probably the youngest, smartest chap I have had the pleasure to meet. Thank you, son. You've been a rock. 🌹

Tyla, what can I say, darling? You stood at your Valentine's Day station for 12 hours without complaint! I still get tearful thinking of that crazy day back in February. What a unit we were.

Just when it was getting out of control, to a point where we were all getting pushed back with our customer demands for flowers.... it was utterly insane..... and clearly losing the battlefield with no reinforcements to call upon, or so we thought, Ed (The Mad Monk) appears from our pop-up in time to save the day. The lad, without orders, threw himself into the fray, linked all back together, enabling the team, not only to retake the lost ground but to hold it! Thank you, Edward. 🌹5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟's

The day itself was of biblical proportion. In the 45 years I've been in this industry, I have never stood next to such amazing talented young people, able to grasp the task thats being asked of them with such eagerness I've never seen before.

As for Mal, we'll let's just say he'll be OK.... 🤭

I'm coming to the end now, eyes full of tears, tears of joy and sadness, sad knowing that one day they will all move on to greater things in life. I hope they all take a little part of all of us with them, whoever they become, wherever they find themselves.
We were the year that was. What a journey.

ג'ק המרטש, שנחשב לרוצח הסדרתי הראשון בעולם וללא ספק לאחד המפורסמים מהם, פעל "בסך הכל" במשך פחות מ-3 חודשים. זו אחת הסיבות שאני לא מציעה סיורים בעקבות ג'ק המרטש, ומעדיפה להציע סיורים שמראים תקופות ארוכות יותר, וגם חיוביות יותר, בהיסטוריה של לונדון.

אבל חודש ספטמבר הוא החודש שבו מציינים מדי שנה את קורבנותיו של ג'ק המרטש, שנרצחו בין אוגוסט לנובמבר 1888, כלומר לפני 135 שנה. השבוע שודר ב-BBC תחקיר שניסה שוב להתחקות מחדש על עקבותיו של הרוצח שזהותו לא ידועה עד היום, באמצעות שחזור זירות הרציחות ובסיוע קרימינולג בכיר וחוקר משטרה בדימוס. לא אשאיר אתכם במתח - גם התחקיר הזה לא הצליח להגיע למסקנה חד משמעית. אבל כדי שהסנדלרית לא תלך יחפה מצאתי את עצמי אתמול בערב משוטטת ברחובות ווייטצ'אפל, האזור שבו התרחשו הרציחות, רק כדי לגלות מחדש שאין שום אזכור לאירועים שהתרחשו שם - לא שלט הנצחה, לא אנדרטה. שום דבר.

כשהתחלתי לחזור לתחנת הרכבת שמתי לב לשלט הזה, על דוכן פרחים ממש מחוץ לשוק ספיטלפילד, וקצת התרגשות יהודית גרמה לי לעצור ולצלם אותו. "רוצה שאני אספר לך את הסיפור מאחורי זה?" מוכר הפרחים המאוד לבבי צץ לידי, וניצל את ההזדמנות להפסקה בסגירת הדוכן. ואני? אני לא אומרת לא לסיפורים.

מתברר שג'וני פתח את דוכן הפרחים שלו רק לפני 4 חודשים, וגילה באיחור שאחד הצדדים שלו פונה בדיוק לזווית שבה השמש זורחת בקיץ כך שהדוכן שלו הפך מדי בוקר לחממה. הדבר המתבקש היה לתלות וילון, ואם כבר וילון - למה לא לכתוב עליו "פרחים" בסינית, כמחווה לקהילת המהגרים הסינית באזור? ואם כבר סינית, למה לא לעשות עוד מחווה למהגרים היהודיים שהתיישבו בווייטצ'אפל במאה ה-19? ואם תשימו לב, בצד הימני של התמונה יש זרים של כשות מיובשת, כי אותם מהגרים היו מקבלים בקיץ "חופש" כדי לנסוע לאזורים הכפריים ולעזור ב... קטיף? קציר? אסיף? אני מודה שאני לא יודעת מה עושים בדיוק לכשות לפני שהיא הופכת לבירה. התכנית של ג'וני היא לצבוע את זרי הכשות בצבעי הקשת, כמחווה גם לקהילה הלהט"בית באזור, ואז גם להוסיף על חלק נוסף של הווילון כיתוב בבנגלית, כמחווה לתושבי האזור כיום (גם שמות הרחובות מתורגמים לבנגלית על שלטי הרחוב).
