From 2 to 5 October 2024, the IAU Office for Astronomy Outreach (OAO) is teaming up with the International Planetarium Society (IPS) to continue the legacy of 100 Hours of Astronomy and celebrate 100 Years of the Planetarium! In 1923, the first planetarium projector was invented in Jena, Germany, and two years later, the first planetarium opened its doors in Munich. Between 2023 and 2025, the world celebrates the centennial of the planetarium and the countless ways they have impacted our society

Over Exposed @ Peckham Rye

Head to the top of The Old Waiting Rooms at Peckham Rye Station for an immersive surprise! Over Exposed, a four-day immersive 360 dome film festival celebrating experiences of connection and togetherness, is set to take place at The Old Waiting Room in Peckham, 26th-29th June. Audio-visual experiences will illuminate the collective space to explore our mental state with softness, creativity and without judgement. Visitors will step into the immersive dome and discover untold narratives of female, non-binary and non-human vulnerability. Over Exposed is made possible by the support of Immersive Experiences. What is Fulldome? A fulldome is a planetarium-like space, where visitors have the chance to lie under a curved projection screen to enhance the immersive experience of the content being shown. Until recently, dome spaces have predominantly been used for scientific and educational purposes, artists are starting to explore the potential and new ways of communicating within these environments. Its experience has previously been compared to a collective type of VR. The film festival also includes the London preview of Junkerry’s Together Apart. This 55-minute immersive feast unfolds in five chapters, delivering strong positive messages of how we disconnect, divide, belong and unite.
