Tonight I am in the Great Hall at Lincoln’s Inn, one of the Inns of Court, the home of the finest legal brains in the country for a corporate dinner. The oak panelling is reminiscent of Hogwarts! Love my job and the many experiences in historical venues.

Tonight I am at Lancaster House, a beautiful 200-year old mansion next to Buckingham Palace where there is a reception and dinner for delegates from New York University. Stunning rococo architecture similar to Versailles. The venue has been the backdrop to many films and TV dramas, notably The Crown and The King’s Speech. Love my job.

Last night I was Toastmaster at Merchant Taylors’ Hall in the City for the Anti Money Laundering Professionals dinner. In this hall is a very interesting ship’s bell which was originally hung on the royal yacht Victoria and Albert when it was launched in 1901, soon after Queen Victoria died, so she never heard it ring. When the yacht was broken up in 1954, the royal family returned the bell to the Merchant Taylors who had gifted it in the first place. I always love ringing this bell when it’s time for the dinner call.

Have just completed an evening at the National Press Club in Washington DC for the annual Defence Media Awards. Entertainment was provided by stand-up comedian Robert Mac with award presentations MC’d by C-Span TV host Mimi Geerges. I had a short time at leisure and paid a visit to the Capitol building, home of the US congress. All peaceful there right now; let’s hope it stays that way during the next three weeks. And months.
