This week we've been enjoying South Ken Kids Festival invited author François Place's work.

In a far-flung corner of the globe, the kingdom of Minotruche languishes, overlooked by its neighbouring countries. Determined to change that after a year of travelling, the king and queen’s nephew has hatched a grand plan- to invite their neighbours to a fabulous banquet, where the show stopping item on the menu will be.... whale! But how to get a hold of one in a country that is landlocked? In-between a picture book and a play, peopled with a cast of ridiculous royals, and one rather large whale, this wry tragicomedy from celebrated children’s author and illustrator François Place is bound to make you laugh.

We’re gearing up for the South Ken Kids Festival this month! We’ve been enjoying Beatrice Alemagna’s haunting interpretation of Snow White, told from her stepmother’s perspective. A tale of narcissism, jealousy and loss of control, with beautiful paintings reminiscent of Goya or Paula Rego, this picture book is breath-taking. A reimagined fairy tale for older children, and one that adults will no doubt love.
