Thought I would share something I’ve been changing up lately- my breakfast! This is something that has really helped me, but it’s important to remember everyone is different and what works for me might not work for you…but here it is anyway and if it’s something you can try, why not! 😍
My focus at the moment is to maintain my well-being to boost productivity and keep myself more regulated (the eternal struggle for ADHDers but also many Neurotypicals).
I was fortunate last week - my lovely neighbour gave me some gorgeous rhubarb from their garden (Walthamstow rhubarb? I hear you say… My family who live in Yorkshire’s famous Rhubarb Triangle will have likely switched off my now) which I’ve been using with my breakfast! 🥣
What I found recently (from @Zoe Science and Nutrition podcast - which is FANTASTIC, by the way) was that oats aren’t as good for some of us as we may have believed! As an ADHDer, it’s so important for me to manage my blood sugar so I can stay regulated.
Unused carbs turn to sugar which increases our blood sugar and sugar and ADHD are a bad combo as sugar releases dopamine in the brain and it can make us fidgety and unfocused.
I literally start to feel angsty if I eat porridge so for me it makes sense to keep them to a minimum and now I lessen their impact on my digestive system by having them with natural Greek yoghurt, which is high in protein and fat. 🤷🏻♀️
My new breakfast bowl, is yoghurt, a small spoon of toasted oats, flax seeds/chia seeds and rhubarb compote (rhubarb, a bit of water, teaspoon of sugar simmered until soft) - it’s delish and keeps me going until lunch.
I love getting my flax seeds first thing in the morning too. The benefits are amazing and they’re really good for keeping cholesterol down - the wonderful Dr michaelmosley_official even did a whole podcast about them in his #justonethingpodcast ✨
Anyway here’s a feast for your eyes - a photo of my delicious brekkie and the
Feels like we can finally unfurl ourselves from the dull Winter and start a cycle of renewal with gusto! ✨
As Lia Leendertz says in her wonderful Almanac:
“Now is the time to push our own heads up and out of the soil in the knowledge that we are deeply rooted. It’s time to dare to share our calling with the world, to take risks and journey forth.”
I got this book for Christmas and I am enjoying connecting with nature through it at the start of every month as I learn more about the seasonal changes, understand when needs to be planted when, why we celebrate certain customs and what the Moon and tides are doing each month.
Grounding has become such necessity for me as I get older - a need to be grounded to help space for my clients to understand their wants, needs and career path, a need to be study for my kids to push up against and a need to ground and regulate my ADHD symptoms! 🙌

Something I always look forward to in my week is Flow Dance Meditation on Wednesday’s at Yonder E17 with Cheralynn Brighton . 💃
It’s such a great way to slow down mid week whilst I am in the middle of a 5 client day, connect to myself, release any built up stress and investigate what is really going on in my body.
A mix of breathwork, meditation and physical movements but essentially is body-led dancing with no pressure to look good (as everyone is doing their own thing mostly with their eyes close).
Cher is a fantastic DJ too - banging dance tunes that this week took me back to a podium in a dance club back in 1995!
Not only does it give you that physical and emotional release to support self regulation (so important for #ADHDers in particular), it also allows you to connect with yourself on a deeper level - to be embodied which brings new awareness and ultimately clarity of focus. 🧘♀️
If you’re looking for a new way to nourish yourself, keep fit and find release then I couldn’t recommend trying it out enough - ITS ALSO GREAT FUN! 💫

We’ve all heard that Blue Monday is a concept created by the big travel companies to sell more holidays in one of the quietest travel months of the year, but, there is truth to January being one of the saddest month’s of the year. 😢
With financial difficulties after Christmas, seasonal employment coming to an end, the freezing cold days and dark nights and not a lot going on in general, adding the pressure of new year’s resolutions, it can leave a large majority of us feeling more glum than usual.
There's also an increase in seasonal depression related to all of the above. Which is why it’s important to highlight, that January is a month to take care of yourself, physically and mentally, your goals can wait until Spring when you have that added pep in your step, but for the time being, find time to give back to yourself, feed your mind and your body. 🧘♀️
So that you can feel good in yourself, and don’t forget how important it is to ask for help if you feel you need to - head to https://www.mind.org.uk to see what support you can get.
Remember, it’s ok to not be ok. ✨

Are you taking part in RED January ? 🔴
I often find that I feel more sluggish than usual in January. The hangover from the hustle and bustle of Christmas and the New Year can often leave me feeling underwhelmed and overwhelmed all at once throughout, which is why I believe that it isn’t a time to move full speed ahead, but a time to focus on your health and mental well-being so that when Spring comes, as with nature, you’re ready to bloom. 🌱
Red January is nationwide movement designed to help you make real change, by encouraging a focus on mental health and well-being throughout the winter months.
The goal is to get yourself physically moving every day, no matter what it is, whether it’s going for a walk or dance, anything that gets your body moving - I managed a game of basketball, ice skating and swimming in the first week! 🏃♀️
There’s still time to sign up, all you need to do is head to https://join.redjanuary.com/ to read more about it, register with your chosen activity and even create a fundraiser which goes towards social prescribing and expanding the community to improve mental and physical health.
It’s a fantastic cause and one that’s so necessary in a world where we’re on the go non-stop, unable to find some time space to feed our mind and our body. 💫
