As we approach the end of a busy week here at Verbal, we thought you would enjoy this lovely quote from Lesson in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus for some self-care inspiration!

Let us know in the comments what book moments or quotes you like to reflect on when it comes to self-care and taking care of your wellbeing.

Verbal had the pleasure of working with Radius Housing to deliver a program designed to bring residents together and share their story. The program was a great success, with mental wellbeing improving in 50% of residents.

Residents felt more relaxed after taking part and felt more hopeful and optimistic about the future. Friendships were made and stories were told over lovely cups of tea.

Check out some wonderful feedback from the project below!

This year, we have been speaking with parents of children with diagnosed or suspected autism about their experiences and invited them to tell their story. We want to give a massive thank you to every parent who spoke to us and completed our survey, as well as our incredible followers who shared our survey and helped it reach more parents.

The full findings of this project, along with a short summary report, will be available on our website shortly.

This project was generously supported by the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland through the Partners for Social Care and Health Improvement Fund.

We recently had the opportunity to collaborate with the Western Health and Social Care Trust foster care social work team and foster care parents to test our new story programme 'Transitional Tales' designed for foster carers to read to their foster children.

The feedback we received from everyone was overwhelmingly positive, they found the stories beautiful, engaging and relatable. There is also strong interest from foster carers who are eager to participate in the programme and use these stories as a tool for building connections.

We are so grateful to everyone who took part in these sessions, your feedback and insights are helping us shape a programme that can make a real difference in people's lives.

Verbal are very pleased to welcome our new member of staff, Tia Sadlon.

Originally from Wisconsin in the USA, Tia first ventured across the Atlantic to do her MSc in Applied Linguistics at the The University of Edinburgh

After completing her MSc, Tia wanted a bit of a break from academia to do something that would benefit others in a more direct and tangible way, which was how she found the Project Trainer role here at Verbal.

As a Project Trainer, Tia has helped design and deliver shared reading and other bibliotherapy-based programs for different groups within the community.

"Iโ€™m so excited to work for such a unique organisation, as it is the perfect place for learning how to use my linguistics and psychology backgrounds for the greater good!"

Verbal is celebrating the rich heritage of storytelling and the beauty of our literary past this week as part of Heritage Week.

We have chosen to feature an excerpt from a poem by Maria Smyth from our The Honest Ulsterman digital archive in keeping with the official theme of "Connections, Routes & Networks."

"Meditation on a Wet Day

A magpie flies across
the wet windscreen
and has me considering
wetness, the shrink-proofedness
the colour-fastness
of the lilies in the field"

The challenging living and working conditions experienced by artists in Northern Ireland have been highlighted in a new report which is based on a survey conducted by
Perspective Economics and commissioned by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Council NI.

Verbal is committed to advocating for artists' rights and fair pay. It is time to acknowledge the value of creative work and ensure that artists can thrive rather than simply endure.
