We would like to highlight that there is an active related to the sector.

Today, a recently bereaved family were in touch to inform us that a third party pretending to be their Funeral Director or Third Party acting on their behalf, through Facebook messenger were offering a recording of the funeral service (this message contained a picture of their loved one taken from an online notice and seemed legitimate).

Church services (all types, including Funerals) are often streamed live and/or recorded (since the pandemic these facilities have become more popular), this is probably one of the reasons that this type of scam has come about.

We would encourage anyone who receives a message like this to speak to their Funeral Director directly before clicking on any links and/or making any type of payment to ensure that it is legitimate.

Not wanting to state the obvious, however, we were appalled to understand that this type of activity (targeting bereaved family members at what is an extremely vulnerable time) can take place and wanted to highlight it to all who may fall prey.

Kindest regards,
D & R Hay and Sons Funeral Directors
