Den brings the laughs to The Barge Inn, Long Eaton on Thurs 21st Sept. Free entry (pay what you want). It's our 2nd birthday, come for comedy and cake.

Our headliner is Dave Longley. Intelligent, silly, thought-provoking and filthy, Dave has found himself headlining comedy clubs all over the country so to see him here is the bargain of the century.
“As sharp as a barrel full of tacks and as intense and intelligent a performer as you’re likely to see.” - The List

Our opener is Alex Mitchell, one of the most exciting young comics around. Growing up gay, autistic and disabled brings a unique set of challenges, but a unique set of stories and takes on the world as well.

Also starring: George Haddon-Hartle, Katie Johnson, Nuala Ryan, Ian Whitcombe, and your friendly MC Denzil de Cristo

Another successful session of Speedwatch this morning of 99 vehicles counted 98 were travelling at the correct speed or were sufficiently alert and slowed down when they saw the signs and hi viz. One vehicle reported to Derbyshire Constabulary.

Sadly our presence seems to make some motorists particularly aggrieved and they feel the absolute need to signal their dismay.

Well it's a shame that you don't approve but it won't stop the sessions happening. Whilst we might be slowing you from getting to your destination we are also hopefully stopping you from having an accident. Having received emails from residents who have been unfortunate enough to have to witness the horrific accidents that HAVE happened in the village we will do everything in our power to continue to STOP reckless speeding through the village.

THINK AGAIN WHEN YOU PUT YOUR FOOT TO THE FLOOR - WHAT IF YOUR GRAN, OR CHILD, OR CAT OR DOG WAS RUN OVER AND INJURED OR WORSE HOW WOULD YOU FEEL THEN?

CHECK YOUR SPEED

Lee recently help saved one of our customers lives when he suddenly became ill whilst playing badminton at the centre, Lee administered lifesaving CPR and used our Defib.

There are many pages and groups around. Our mission is to unify the district, and bring communities together.

Are you an admin or moderator of another spotted group in Erewash? We'd like to unify the admins of each area so everyone can benefit from "one source information".

We'd like admins to remain admins but merge our resources. Are you in? Drop us a message, We'd like to discuss options.

FYI: There is no financial incentive for us. We operate Spotted: Erewash in our own freetime.

TO ALL THE NEIGHBOURHOODS IN

✌🏻😮‍💨😶‍🌫️As we're approaching summer time,
Let the children play.

If a child kicks a ball over to your garden - just throw it back

If a child wants to chalk on the pavement and play hopscotch - it will wash off

If a child wants a water fight - water dries

If a child wants to run around laughing and shouting - it’s good to hear them being so happy

If you are older or your children are older, remember you were once young, and so were they. It’s not like “the olden days” - too many children are sitting inside playing on their computers which isn’t always the best thing for them

Life is too short to stress about these things. If it’s a reasonable time, and no one is having a major rave, dont be remembered as the grumpy neighbour.

Let the children play.

Community shuttle

A community shuttle that will carry passengers around Ilkeston town centre looks set to be an electric eight-seater minibus with additional capacity for wheelchair access.

The community shuttle, is just one of a number of projects that will be funded through the council’s £2.8 million share of the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The shuttle would operate regularly throughout the day on a trial basis. It is hoped that it would also take passengers to other attractions in the town such as Victoria Park, Erewash Museum and the planned new nature reserve at the former Pewit Golf Course.

Councillor Bryn Lewis, Lead Member for Town Centres, says:

“The community shuttle will be the ideal solution for shoppers, visitors to our town’s attractions and people who may have difficulty walking up the length of the town’s main shopping street. It’s an incredibly exciting project and I look forward to seeing it in place. It will be a benefit to the town’s businesses, residents and visitors.”

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is a central pillar of the UK government’s Levelling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025. The Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills.

History of " The Iron Giant" to be Featured at Erewash Museum Next Month. Will You Be Going?

Bennerley Viaduct Exhibition

A pop-up exhibition introducing the history, people and social history of Bennerley Viaduct will be held at Erewash Museum.

Visitors will be able to find out more about the fascinating structure, the impact of the railways on the area, and the people who built, used and preserved the Iron Giant.

The exhibition, by the Friends of Bennerley Viaduct, will be held from March 11-25 in the Hayloft. On Saturday March 18, between 11am and 3pm, there will be a free bridge building challenge alongside bridge-building games for families, suitable for ages 5-11. There will also be STEM Challenges with LEGO and other building blocks.

A memory sharing morning will be held on Saturday March 25, between 10am and 1pm. People will be able to share stories about Bennerley Viaduct, take their photos or artefacts along, see the exhibition and chat with volunteer historians. At 2pm there will be a talk called A Bridge into Victorian Railway Social History, by historian Kate Crossley. There is a £3 charge to attend. Admission is free for Friends of the Museum.

Councillor Carol Hart, Leader of Erewash Borough Council, says:

“It is great to see the Friends of Bennerley Viaduct sharing their passion for the popular viaduct with Erewash Museum. This is set to be a fascinating exhibition and I hope lots of people will visit the museum next month to find out more about the Iron Giant and take part in some fun activities with their children or grandchildren at the same time.”

Rebecca Morris-Buck, project manager at Bennerley Viaduct, says:

"Our exhibition, made possible by funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, will share the viaduct's history and that of the people and communities that are part of the Iron Giant's story.
We are happy to be celebrating the significance of this remarkable survivor from our industrial past and its new place at the heart of the community. We'd like to thank the Erewash Museum team for all their support, and welcoming us into their brilliant museum."

I am a third-year student at the University of Derby studying Forensic Psychology. For my dissertation, I am conducting research on the police custody experience of children and young people. Participants must be the parent of a child or young person who has previously been held in custody by the police and was under the age of 18 at the time. If your child is a adult now you can still participate but put how old your child was at the time of arrest. Only one parent per child. Participants will be required to complete a demographic form with their child's details (e.g., Age, Gender) and a brief survey consisting of 15 statements. Responses to each statement will be kept confidential and will be unidentifiable. To safeguard your identity during the study, you will generate a unique code.

Your participation in this study will benefit my research and help me acquire a deeper understanding of the experiences children and young people have in police custody. If you would like to take part in my research, I would greatly appreciate it.

Please use the link below to complete the study.

Thank you for your time.

“Pets, it turns out, also have last wishes before they die, but only known by veterinarians who put old and sick animals to sleep. Twitter user Jesse Dietrich asked a vet what was the most difficult part of his job.

The specialist answered without hesitation that it was the hardest for him to see how old or sick animals look for their owners with the eyes of their owners before going to sleep. The fact is that 90 % of owners don't want to be in a room with a dying animal. People leave so that they don't see their pet leave. But they don't realize that it's in these last moments of life that their pet needs them most.

Veterinarians ask the owners to be close to the animals until the very end. ′′It's inevitable that they die before you. Don't forget that you were the center of their life. Maybe they were just a part of you. But they are also your family. No matter how hard it is, don't leave them.

Dont let them die in a room with a stranger in a place they dont like. It is very painful for veterinarians to see how pets cannot find their owner during the last minutes of their life. They dont understand why the owner left them. After all, they needed their owner’s consolation.

Veterinarians do everything possible to ensure that animals are not so scared, but they are completely strangers to them. Don't be a coward because it's too painful for you. Think about the pet. Endure this pain for the sake of their sake. Be with them until the end.”
