Merry Christmas from History Hit! 🎁

Did you know the tradition of the Christmas tree stems all the way back to the ancient Roman festival of Saturnalia? During the winter solstice, branches served as a reminder of spring – and became the root of our festive tree 🌿

However, it was Queen Victoria's beloved husband, Prince Albert, who truly popularised decorative Christmas trees in Britain. In 1848, prints were produced showing the royal family decorating their tree, and by the 1860s, Christmas trees were being sold en masse in London’s Covent Garden 🎄
