In 2023 with the support of the #GreenerFutureFund awarded through the Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation, we embarked on our journey in reducing Luton Carnival’s CO2 emissions and up-skilling local artists and students in sustainable practices.

We were very pleased to support the Eastern European communities back in September with the East Fest 2023 Parade!
The costumes were made at the #EasternEuropeanCarnivalClub, a dedicated project engaging the diverse Eastern European communities of Luton, in exploring their cultures through carnival.
The parade at East Fest was the finale of the project which was funded by Luton Social Justice Unit through Bedfordshire and Luton Community Foundation as part of #lutoncitizensfund

Back in September we were honoured to be invited guests at the New Yam Festival 2023, hosted by the #IgboCommunityLuton.
Carnivals in the Caribbean, South America and several in America and the UK, have roots from the ancient traditions of African cultures. It was fantastic to see how culture and traditions have been preserved through the generations.

Back in September in celebration of #LutonHeritageMonth and #windrush75 we curated a 3 day exhibition at the #HatFactoryArtsCentre exploring the #Windrush generation who came to Luton and built a cultural legacy within #LutonCarnival
The exhibition explored #ScandalousMasBand’s 2023 Carnival costume, a replica of the Empire Windrush.
St Kitts & Nevis Carnival Group’s newest Carnival costume telling the story of the women of the Windrush.
Oral histories of Windrush elders from #StkittsnevislutonCarnivalgroup
Footage of Luton Carnival through the years showcasing the vibrant Caribbean influences.

A children’s set from the Umunwanyi ICL Cultural Dance Group from the #igbocommunityluton at #HatDistrictLates last week. Kicking off our #BlackHistoryMonth programme of events in partnership with The Culture Trust Luton
The second generation Igbo children learn and make connections with their culture through tradtional festivals and events held by the Igbo community in Luton. Cultural showcases are an important part of preserving traditions for future generations.
