Join the hilarious Paul Mayhew-Archer, the multi-award-winning co-writer of ‘The Vicar of Dibley’, for a laugh-out-loud evening of entertainment, while raising money and awareness for the Lyme Regis branch of Parkinson's UK. Anyone who listens to the Movers and Shakers podcast will know that Paul Mayhew-Archer is a very funny man who can find humour in every aspect of living with Parkinson’s. Paul has been a comedy scriptwriter for more than 40 years but hadn’t performed live since his university days - until his diagnosis gave him a rich new vein of material.
Paul was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2011, and despite the serious nature of the condition, he was determined to see the lighter side and started writing jokes about it, with appearances at the Royal Albert Hall and The Comedy Store and in 2015, made an award-winning documentary called Parkinson’s – The Funny Side.
Incurable Optimist is a must see show. Get your tickets now.
Doors open 6.15pm. Tickets £15 per person.

When comedy writer Paul Mayhew-Archer was told he had Parkinson’s he refused to take the condition too seriously. Instead, he started doing jokes about it, with appearances at the Royal Albert Hall and the Comedy Store. He’s best known as the co-writer of The Vicar of Dibley, Mrs Brown's Boys and Roald Dahl's Esio Trot, amongst many others. In 2015 Paul made an award-winning documentary about Parkinson’s called Parkinson’s – The Funny Side.
He now takes his one-man show Incurable Optimist on tour around the UK, raising money for local Parkinson’s groups.
Incurable Optimist is an inspiring show about the therapeutic power of comedy and laughter. Paul talks about his 40 year comedy career and the funny side of Parkinson's. This is probably the best and only chance you have of seeing Paul perform in our area, so, please don't miss the opportunity to see this highly talented and infectiously hilarious man on your doorstep.
This event is being organised by the Lyme Regis District Parkinson's Support Group.

Learn how to use a defibrillator and perform CPR
Lyme Heartbeat are providing a free defibrillator awareness and training session designed for anyone living or working within the local community.
How confident are you that you would feel empowered to take action if you saw someone struggling with a possible heart condition?
Every minute counts when a person is in cardiac arrest, so it’s really important people learn how to deliver basic life support and how to use a defibrillator.

The session will provide you with valuable life saving skills including how to use a defibrillator and perform CPR.

First Responders Virgil Turner & Chris Hutchings will be leading the session.

No booking required. Please come along to the Woodmead Halls for 10.30am on Sat 30th Sept.

Lyme Heartbeat is a group of volunteers who have raised funds to install and maintain 11 defibrillator units in and around Lyme Regis.

This is a free training session but there will be a collection bucket for anyone who wishes to make a donation.

Our Story

We pride ourselves on being the cleanest and best maintained meeting place in the town, with facilities for a full range of social, entertainment and business requirements. We are also one of the greenest public halls in Dorset, generating our own electricity. Facilities include a large hall (17m or 56ft x 9m or 30ft) able to seat up to 200 people with stage and three dressing rooms, and a small hall (8m or 26ft x 5.4m or 17.7ft) able to sit 30 people - both with access to the licensed bar and recently extended and refurbished kitchen with excellent catering facilities. Both halls can be hired together for larger events and combined so that the smaller hall could be used as a separate bar.
