Seed sowing workshop

Do you want to learn how to sow seeds to fill your garden with an abundance pf lovely flowers? Or do you know someone who does?

Join me for a seed sowing workshop in the flower farm. This workshop will talk you through how to grow annual flowers from seed and how to care for them. We’ve curated a lovely selection of flowers that will provide you with flowers throughout Summer. Sowing a mix of hardy and half-hardy annual seeds to take home and nurture.

March is the perfect time to start seeds sowing as daylight hours start to exceed 10 hours per day from mid-February. Having enough daylight is key to starting off your seeds at the right time.

One of my favourite flowers this year. Sadly I didn't manage to save any seed as the damp weather just turned everything to mold. Fingers crossed I can germinate enough from purchased seed next year.

How to have environmentally friendly wedding flowers?

So you want to find out about being kind to the environmentally but still having gorgeous wedding flowers – you’re in the right place. Read on for the headlines or take a deeper dive with the full blog article on the website.

Firstly, why does it matter?
Many of us are trying to reduce the carbon footprint of our lifestyles to help avoid climate change. Choosing seasonal flowers from a local grower can reduce the carbon footprint by up to 90% compared to imported flowers*.

So how can you choose wedding flowers that are as sustainable as possible?

1. Chose local, seasonal flowers where possible
Flowers that are in season will be more readily available locally and of higher quality than imported alternatives that have been forced to bloom out of season or treated with chemicals.

2. Choose someone who cares
Look for a florist who works with local/British flowers and specialises in environmentally conscious approaches, such as alternatives to floral foam and single use plastic.

3. Repurpose your flowers after the big day
This is a great way to give your flowers a second life. They can be dried, rearranged or donated to charities after events.

The most important thing, is to find someone who cares and be open to discussing different options.
