Milk bottles

Such a classic, so simple yes so beautiful. These simple vessels really let the flowers do the talking. These lovely blooms were from L & E's wedding back in May this year .

Top 10 annuals for cut flowers

Whilst it's too late to sow many annual flowers, it's a good time to see what's blooming and think about seeds to over-winter. Check out the new blog on the website for the full run down and extra tips - link in bio.

1. Cornflower (aka Batchelor’s Buttons). Direct sow and overwinter.
2. Cosmos. Favourite varieties apricot and tetra versailles.
3. Nigella (aka Love-in-a-mist). Direct sow.
4. Orlaya. Good to overwinter.
5. Scabious (aka pincushion). Favourite variety black knight.
6. Stocks (aka Matthiola). Seedlings with fused cotyledons (the first two leaves) will give single flowers.
7. Sunflowers (aka Helianthus). Try alternatives to yellow such as vanilla ice, mrs mars and ruby eclipse.
8. Sweet peas. My favourite is high scent.
9. Zinnias. Direct sow and they do better in a sheltered spot.
10. Salvia viridian (aka painted sage). Perfect for texture and foliage.

Top 10 herbs to use for cut flowers

The scents you can add to your arrangements from herbs are second to none, so get them planted in your cut flower patch. For more info the new blog on the website for the full run down and tips - link in bio.

Here's my top 10 favourite varieties, but I'm always looking for more so let me know what you're sowing and growing!

1. Basil - the lemon or cinnamon
2. Dill - mariska
3. Fennel - foeniculum vulgare purpureum is the bronze variety
4. Lavender - multifida origano
5. Lemon Balm - melissa officinalis, though limoncello has a stronger scent and trails.
6. Mint - apple mint, pinapple mint and chocolate mint
7. Oregano - Origanum vulgare, greek
8. Rosemary - miss jespos for tall stems
9. Feverfew - Flore Pleno double-flowering
10. Calendula - sherbert fizz for peach flowers
