Lighthouse Theatre presents: A double bill of Christmas Treats

A Child's Christmas in Wales by Dylan Thomas
&
A Christmas Story by Richard Burton

A double bill of two wonderful Christmas stories by two famous Welshmen - Dylan Thomas and Richard Burton. Dylan Thomas' A Child's Christmas in Wales is a seasonal favourite in Wales and beyond, and this wonderful evocation of a child's delight at the festive season has become famous the world over.

Richard Burton's A Christmas Story is not as well known, but is a funny, warm and thought provoking account of childhood memories...in many ways it was a conscious response to Dylan Thomas' own childhood narrative.

Told by award-winning actors Adrian Metcalfe and James Scannell, this evening's festive entertainment has been described by the press as 'masterful story-telling' and 'perfect festive fare'.

Tickets: £12 (Concession £10)

Saturday 5 October - 7.30pm
William Condry Memorial Lecture

David Elias: Lessons from a Welsh Hill Farm

An illustrated lecture in which David Elias will reflect on what he learned whilst writing his book Shaping the Wild, which explored issues around farming and conservation by focussing on one very particular farm in Eryri (Snowdonia). In the lecture he will cover cultural and political dimensions as well as wildlife and conservation including more recent developments.

David has been a naturalist since childhood and worked in nature conservation for nearly 30 years. He first came to Wales in 1975 and subsequently lived in Llanuwchllyn, near Bala, for 35 years before moving to Machynlleth in 2019. Ever since his work on the Berwyn Mountains in the 1980s David has retained an interest in how wildlife and farming can co-exist in upland Wales.

Doors Open 7pm
Tickets: £10 (includes refreshments)

Nos Sadwrn 5 Hydref - 7.30yh
Darlith Coffa William Condry

David Elias: Gwersi i’w dysgu gan Fferm Fynyddig yng Nghymru

Darlith ddarluniadol lle y bydd David Elias yn myfyrio am yr hyn a ddysgodd wrth ysgrifennu ei lyfr hynod lwyddiannus, Shaping the Wild, a oedd yn archwilio materion yn ymwneud â ffermio a chadwraeth ar un fferm benodol yn Eryri. Yn y ddarlith, bydd yn ystyried dimensiynau diwylliannol a gwleidyddol, yn ogystal â bywyd gwyllt a chadwraeth, gan gynnwys datblygiadau mwy diweddar.

Mae David wedi bod yn naturiaethwr ers ei blentyndod, a bu’n gweithio ym maes cadwraeth natur am bron i 30 mlynedd. Daeth i Gymru am y tro cyntaf ym 1975 a bu’n byw yn Llanuwchllyn ger y Bala am 35 mlynedd wedi hyn, cyn symud i Fachynlleth yn 2019. Ers ei waith ar Fynyddoedd y Berwyn yn ystod y 1980au, mae David wedi cynnal ei ddiddordeb brwd yn y ffordd y gall bywyd gwyllt a ffermio gyd-fodoli ar ucheldir Cymru.

Drysau yn agor am 7yh
Tocynnau: £10 (yn cynnwys lluniaeth)
