I’m a British novelist and live in Malmesbury, Wiltshire. I’ve lived here since 1985, with my husband, Peter and three children and various dogs. The reason we moved here was because Peter was in the Royal Air Force and we were posted to RAF Lyneham. We were then posted to RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus at the beginning of the nineties, which was to prove a catalyst for my writing.

I’ve had various careers during my life – secondary school English teacher, financial advisor, portrait and wedding photographer and teacher of English as a foreign language to business people. It took me sixty years to realise I should have been a writer all along, but having started, I now can’t stop.

I did an MA in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University in 2012 and I’ve now self-published seven books. One of them is a children’s book, based on my current Labrador, Mabel’s, obsession with balls. It’s called ‘Marvellous Mabel and her Amazing Ball’ – but my main genre is Women’s Fiction. I love writing about families and relationships, secrets and tensions; about female friendships and emotions … and women’s resilience. The ‘Aphrodite Trilogy’ is set in Cyprus, as is ‘The Life Series’. My standalone novel, ‘Love is a State of Mind’, is set closer to home, in Bath, but it also nips over to Australia.

I’ve just released my memoir, ‘Love, Honour and Annoy’ - a humorous reflection on my very long marriage. I’m now working on a new novel, with the working title, ‘Cyprus Sunset’ and a book of short stories.

My three children have flown the nest, of course, but often come home for chaotic weekends of dog walks, laughter and noisy meals around the large kitchen table. The whole family have been very supportive and patient with my late career change as a novelist, always willing to help with the plot or reading a new draft.

I love reading and always have a book on the go: Clare Chambers, Ann Tyler, Kristin Hannah, Elif Shafak, Matt Haig, Jeanine Cummins, Meg Mason, David Nicholls are just a few of the authors I’ve read in the last few months. I’ve just started ‘Demon Copperhead’ by Barbara Kingsolver.

Here’s a little bit about me, as my ‘other’ persona - writer of (mainly) women’s fiction, Sarah Catherine Knights

I love modern music and listen to Coldplay, Sam Smith, Billie Eilish, Tom Walker, George Michael and Ed Sheeran, just to name a few! On the active side, I love walking, swimming (in the sea if possible, but I do lengths in the pool to keep fit) and going to the gym; I spend hours ambling through the surrounding fields with Mabel and as I walk, I think about my next writing project. I’ve always had dogs and can’t imagine life without one.

So, tomorrow, Monday, 1st July, sees the publication of my memoir, 'Love, Honour and Annoy' on Kindle. (The paperback is coming very soon. Watch this space.)

I'm excited and a little nervous! This is a complete departure for me: nonfiction, personal and humorous. I would love you all to take a punt and read it and even review it for me. It's always difficult when you first publish a book, when it has zero reviews.

I'm hoping some of you may enjoy it – I certainly loved writing it. It gave me the opportunity to reflect on my life and wonder how we've got so old. In my head, I'm still twenty ...

By the way, Peter has given me his full permission to take the mickey out of him, which I have done, relentlessly. But ... I also do the same to myself, so I don't feel too guilty. Life's too short to be taken too seriously. You may as well laugh at it.

If you don't like it, keep it to yourself. If you like it, tell your friends and give it a 5* review.

If you want to risk reading it, buy it here: https://amzn.eu/d/04lD6pYB

Have you ever wondered how on earth two people can be together for fifty years? It seems like a miracle to me and I’m living it.

In 'Love Honour and Annoy', I try to figure out how Peter and I have survived such a long partnership. We met, by chance, in 1970 and despite me getting cold feet and postponing the wedding for a year, we got married in 1976 and embarked on this incredible journey together. Spoiler alert: it hasn’t all been love and roses. We’ve annoyed each other intensely a lot of the time, but we’ve also been best friends, produced three amazing children and found our way through the bad times.

This memoir doesn’t reveal the secret of a perfect marriage, but our stories will hopefully make you laugh and you’ll see why, despite everything, we're better together. It is a humorous and heartfelt reflection on life and marriage, from the perspective of a seventy-one year old woman, who feels she’s only just getting started.

Pre-order 'Love, Honour and Annoy' on Kindle today. A funny memoir that will make you think about the inevitability of getting old.

Paperback coming soon.

So … here is the reason I’ve been posting photos of ‘us’. I have written a memoir called LOVE, HONOUR AND ANNOY about our very long marriage.
We met in 1970 and married in 1976. We’ve been together ever since, often annoying each other intensely 🤣 but we’ve made it through and I thought it would be interesting to reflect on how we did it. I hope it will make you laugh. And by the way … I had Peter’s full permission to take the mickey out of him relentlessly 😂
It’s available to pre-order now for £1.99.

Brand new cover for Love is a State of Mind. Sometimes you have to go with your gut and change a cover.

For those of you who haven’t read it yet, ‘Love is a State of Mind’ is a humorous and uplifting story about getting a second chance at life.

Even though I wrote it, I really love it (I re-read it recently and because I’m always working on my next book, I’d sort of forgotten it - which is weird, I know).

I wanted the cover to reflect its positive view on life and also mirror some of the trends in women’s fiction covers. I noticed in my ‘stats’ that the conversion rate for this novel was good - ie - when people read the blurb, they bought it. So, in order to attract more people to click on it, it needed a better cover.

I love the vibrant colours and the swifts flying away to warmer climes.

I’d love anyone who reads this to share my post, so it gets seen by more people! Thank you in advance x

If you want to read something that will make you laugh (and maybe cry) and give you hope for the future, give it a try. It’s not about Cyprus this time - but there’s a long section set in Australia.

Emily, a mother of two, dreamt of having a third child. When she joins her husband on Cyprus at the beginning of the nineties, she hopes that she can persuade Luke that three children will make their family complete. Little does she know that Luke has been lying to her about their future.

It takes her a while to adjust to her new life, but as she grows in confidence, she begins to love the island. She embraces new experiences, makes new friends and re-discovers herself.
