Less than 1 WEEK TO GO Galactica 🚀 👽 🛸 24.01.25

Arrive early to see Manchester-born and raised, 🎧 Alex Ewart aka Al:x who has always been a passionate lover of all things electronic. Growing up in the early 90s, Al:x was immersed in rave, hardcore, acid house and even a touch of grunge. Too young to attend clubs at the time, he found inspiration in his older sisters music collection. A regular at The Hacienda, she introduced him to various Rave Generation mix tapes and legendary albums like The Prodigy’s ‘Music For the Jilted Generation’, which became an early favourite.

Ever since buying his first pair of Technics 1210’s in 2003, Al:x has never looked back 🎧. Playing at various bars, clubs and house parties across Sheffield and Manchester during university years, spinning a mix of nu skool breaks, drum & bass and techno.

Key milestones include winning two DJ competitions and performing at a variety of rave venues, including the iconic Fort Perch Rock in New Brighton. More recently, Al:x has played at venues across Manchester and Leeds, such as The Faversham, and secured regular afterparty slots for Suncode Festival overseas in Gran Canaria.

Some of his favourite DJs include the likes of Dixon, Ben UFO, Sasha, Francesco Del Garda, Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock. Al:x is a passionate crate digger, seamlessly blending old and new with a sound that’s constantly evolving; deep house, breaks, acid, prog, electro, tech-house and techno all go into the melting pot 👽 👾 🤖 ✨

Al:x will be firing the first Guest slot 🚀 boosters at 9pm, so arrive early! ..

Followed by yours truly, DJ VivSki & Electric Gigi accompanied by Percussionist RonGod, and our grand finale/Guest 🎧 - John Paynter Daisy Parkes ⚔🖤⚔

VivSki's final 🎧 gig of 2024 - join me this Saturday 28th Dec at the coolest spot in Ancoats blossom street SOCIAL from 6pm .. Absolutely over the moon to be joined by my friend/DJ Steve 'Cozzie' Cosgrove for a night of pure musical magic 💫 ...

Steve's passion for music began at the tender age of eight, collecting 7” vinyl from iconic artists like The Specials, The Beat, and Madness. Immersed in the vibrant sounds of the late '70s/early '80s, he embraced breakdancing and the burgeoning StreetSounds culture. Armed with a ghetto blaster, Steve brought music to life by hosting youth club parties, laying the foundation for what would become a lifelong career in music.
By the late '80s, he had perfected the art of DJ'g on his Technics 1210s, inspired by pioneers like Robbie Vincent & Jeff Young, whose BBC Radio 1 shows introduced him to the soulful grooves of US Soul & Disco. Friday nights at Manchester’s iconic Hacienda,
particularly Mike Pickering’s Shine nights, cemented his love for house music & club culture, fueling his artistic direction.

The early '90s saw Steve rise as a respected producer, collaborator, & remixer. Sharing studio space with K-Klass in Wrexham, he co-founded a Production Co. with Cream Liverpool resident DJ Matthew Roberts. Managed by Cream founders James Barton and Andy Carroll, they signed to Olympic Records under the name Bottom Dollar, inspired by their Chester club night, Bet Your Bottom Dollar.

A significant career highlight was co-producing the UK chart hit “Let the Music Lift You Up” with Loveland at PWL Studios in MCR, reaching No.16 in 1994. This success opened doors in the industry, leading Steve to help Pete Waterman establish and manage Unity Records in Liverpool. He also played a pivotal role in the North West record store scene through Eastern Bloc Manchester and Hot Waxx Warrington, cementing his influence in the region.
Unity Records became a hub for Cream DJs and international legends like Carl Cox, Oakenfold, Judge Jules, DJ Harvey, and Kerri Chandler, who regularly purchased vinyl from Steve. His expertise earned him residencies at Liverpool hotspots Bar Eve and Club Eden, where he warmed up for house icons such as Tony Humphries, Kerri Chandler, and UK pioneers X-Press 2, promoted by the legendary Charlie Chester.

Expanding his horizons, Steve played at the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) in 1999 and 2000, founded Cactus Records in 1999, and saw its first release King Unique “Love is what you need (things are changing)” signed to Defected Records in 2000. He continued releasing tracks through respected labels like Shaboom Records in the 2000s, further solidifying his reputation as a key figure in the house music scene.

Between 2003 and 2006, Steve promoted and managed a live music event in Chester,
showcasing local talent and diversifying his creative endeavors. His career continued internationally, with performances at the MustHaveSoul event in Dubai in 2010 and hosted MustHaveSoul events in the U.K with Disco Don John Morales NYC and Rahaan in Chester and Blackpool. Also played at the Vocal Booth Weekender in Alicante, Spain, from 2014 to 2019.
Dj’d at the Hustle nights (Liverpool Disco Festival) in 2017 & 2018 at The Magnet club Liverpool warming up for Osunlade, Dj Spinna, Terry Hunter, John Morales and Dave Lee.

Currently, Steve is a driving force behind Planetary Jazz Foundation (PJF), a quarterly event running in both Chester and Liverpool. Through PJF, Steve continues to connect with audiences, blending his decades of experience with his passion for music to curate unforgettable nights.
From grassroots beginnings to international stages, Steve Cosgrove’s career is a testament to his unwavering dedication to music and its power to inspire and connect.
