Good morning ✨ today we are absolutely delighted to announce that after years of fundraising, our new Wadsworth organ console has now been built and installed in the Great Nave! It's been 35 years since the original organ was played for the last time, (by Stephen Mann) before being stripped from the Monastery and sold for scrap, by the property developers who bought the building from the Franciscans in the 1980s.
We'd like to thank each and every one of you who has donated to our organ restoration fund over the past few years, helping us to restore a unique piece of Manchester musical history here in Gorton 🙏 🙏 🙏 - just look what you did! 😍
The organ can already be played electronically (and it sounds absolutely amazing!) but the Monastery Trust is still fundraising to raise the final £40,000 we need to reinstall all 1000 original Victorian pipes into the organ loft, so the organ can be played traditionally once more, in complete resonance with the Monastery architecture, just as E.W. Pugin designed it to do, back in 1866.

Yoga Synergy is a very gentle form of movement and is taught every Thursday, 1-2pm, at the Monastery, by highly accomplished yogi, Stef, in our beautiful, pyramid shaped studio.
This is not the type of yoga that requires contortion into difficult postures and as such, this relaxed and friendly class is suitable for all levels, including absolute beginners.

Led by our resident sound healer, John Hofton, we'll be joined by Monastery CEO, Elaine Griffiths, OBE., plus all of our extended, multi-faith family to mark the beginning of what we pray will be a blessed 2023 summer! ☀️
At this time of year in the Northern Hemisphere, many traditions celebrate the summer solstice in a myriad of ways. We will create our own celebration for 2023, whilst honouring the traditions. There will be live music and mantras along with a ceremonial releasing of old energies, dream-sharing, a special solstice prayer and meditation.
You can expect a service that is deeply moving and celebratory in equal measures, we hope you'll join us 😊

We had the pleasure to meet Mr & Mrs Crump and the family when they visited the Monastery a couple of weeks ago to celebrate their wedding anniversary, bringing some original photos with them from when the Monastery was still a Franciscan church with its original pews 😍
It was so lovely to meet this wonderful couple, still beaming and besotted after all these years together. We gave recreating the original wedding photo our very best shot too!
