The accessibility issues with Stevenson Square, Northern Quarter, Manchester City Centre📍
Dave Steele The Blind Poet,, has retinitis pigmentosa; a hereditary eye condition which involves the gradual degeneration of the retina. Dave, who uses a cane, says his sight is straw-like in one eye and completely blind in the other.
Trying to navigate a cycle path with no traffic lights or cones on the pad; confusion over which traffic light corresponds to what road for the set that did exist; and traffic lights changing colour too quickly, Dave was stunned at so many basic design flaws and questioned whether the defects would mean disabled people would be put off going there entirely.
Dave is a patron of the sight loss charity, Henshaws and was accompanied by Stephen Tongue, Director of Fundraising at Henshaws.
