Camille Warren’s 2023 highlight was settling a case where a child was mistakenly involved in a terrorism investigation. The child was seized in public by armed officers and held without the protections given to minors in custody.
The case had been dragging on for years with no disclosure or substantial responses from the police or IOPC, because of the terrorism investigation in the background.
With the client's determination and tenacity, the team were able to finally achieve substantial damages, which while it cannot undo the harm caused, is recognition of what was done to them.

This year Sonia Birdee has achieved a great deal and made a significant positive difference to her clients’ lives.
Sonia has continued to hold public authorities to account and get help for vulnerable people, such as the single mum to four children under six unsuitably housed in a second floor flat, accessed via an uncovered, two-flight external staircase. Or the woman who fled war in Sudan with her two children who was deemed not to be in priority need despite all three of them suffering from PTSD.
The good news for clients is that 2023 has seen Sonia make the move back into full time practice now that her own young children are in school.
Sonia’s vital work has also been recognised by an improved ranking in the Legal Directories.
