So I can't quite believe this, but last night's show was S0LD OUT!! My first show at the fringe with a full house. The last two people in said they'd share a seat 😆

Ironically, it was the first show I'd not taken a crowd selfie because I was using my phone to film the show. Footage coming soon.

Still 6 shows to go and I can't wait. If you're here, come and see me at theSpaceUK Surgeons Hall, 18:10. 12th - 17th August.

Have a great Edinburgh Fringe Darren Walsh Puns... thank you Salford Arts Theatre for staging this show during Greater Manchester Fringe

Only just realised that my show was nominated at both the Greater Manchester Fringe and Shaftesbury Fringe this year. 🏆

I’ll be doing it in Edinburgh Fringe next week, as well as last years show, from 14th Aug. Link in comments

In 1980s Salford; Helen & Linda, two old ‘women’, grapple with useless husbands, a homosexual son and what’s on telly while they natter!

*Please note, Helen and Linda may, or may not, be played by two gay men in dresses!

Natter is a one-act comedy, written and starring Joe Henry-Evans - alongside fellow local actor, John Thacker. Natter began life as a twenty-minute short at Qweerdog’s new writing event, Qweer Shorts. Opening initially at The King’s Arms, Salford before transferring to Hope Mill Theatre last year, and touring to Liverpool shortly after. The show has now been developed into a longer, one-act play, directed by Qweerdog’s Stewart Campbell.

Mike Heath announces the nominations for the Write for the Stage award.

The nominations were:
● Sunny Girl, by Beth Westbrook at New Adelphi Theatre, The University of Salford.
● The Beauty of Being Herd, by Ruth Berkoff at The Cockatoo Club.
● Neurochatter, by Sara Jane Harvey at The Fitzgerald and The Kings Arms.
● With Love, Mr Gay, by Joshua Val Martin at Social Refuge.
● Messianic Moments, by Barb Heller-Artist and Educator at THE EMPTY SPACE.
● Natter, by Joe Henry-Evans, Qweerdog Theatre, at The Edge Manchester.

And the WINNER was With Love, Mr Gay. Collecting the award was George Bury.

This was the premiere of Joshua Val Martin’s new solo show (his third) at Greater Manchester Fringe.

It was based on a TRUE STORY, about the time a neighbourly dispute about the bins led to receiving a homophobic death threat, that asks big questions about making peace in the face of injustice.

With Love, Mr Gay sees the continued collaboratin of writer/performer Joshua Val Martin (SKY Television, Bruntwood Prize 2017, National Theatre Studio) and the visual artist Jez Dolan (British Museum, Victoria & Albert Museum, Schwules Museum).

Their work is rooted in their shared experience as working class gay men from the north of England, and is inspired by their difference of generation and artistic background.

Previously, they have produced a Q***r art exhibitin in Iceland, toured Val Martin’s firat two solo shows, and with support from Heritage Lottery over 2023 they created a series of works and aural histories responding to the 1967 Sexual Offence Act.

Praise for his last show THE UNFORGETTABLE NAME: “A hilarious, pertinent, and powerful show”.

Thank you Mike Heath for presenting this award.
