WELL...I totally forgot but it was Yes Lah's 2nd birthday over the weekend! Two years ago Yes Lah opened it's doors and I still remember how chaotic that first day was and it's mad to reminisce of all the times, people, events and memories made in this little space ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฅน๐ŸŽˆ

Running a business has it's sad/stressful times too so to be here writing this, despite all those of times is a big achievement. So, all in all, thank you for your support and allowing Yes Lah to still be a thing and although we (alongside many other small businesses) fight to survive another day, it's your continued support that keeps us still here!!๐Ÿค

I'd also like to give a massive thank you to the Yes Lah team (past and present!) our amazing neighbours on Barlow Moor Road, incredible suppliers and friends and family for all the help, support, laughs and more over the past 2 years... I couldn't have done it without you and for that I am forever grateful ๐Ÿ’š

Thank you for supporting local and making my little dream of having a space to cook, out Filipino food on the map and host mega events a reality โœจ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿฅฐ

Hello everyone! We have had a few new followers recently ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿฅนso I thought I'd do a little reintroduction behind the voice on this account and the business -Yes Lah ๐Ÿ˜„๐ŸŒด

I'm Zos! Also known as Zosima. You may not see me as often at the front as I'm back of house in the kitchen, cooking all the food for the cafe! โ˜บ๏ธ

It will be coming to 2 years that we will have been open in Barlow Moor Road and prior to that, I was doing Filipino inspired street food, catering and events with my cooking page since 2018. Before that, I worked in hospitality all my life and have had the pleasure of working alongside some amazing individuals and companies which has lead me to where I am today! โœจ

I am a 90s baby, love my cats and absolutely love I get to cook Filipino food and flavours to you all. I love everything about food, sharing and experiences! I literally don't know what else I'd do if it wasn't for my work involving feeding people and making connections- I feel so lucky! so thankyou ๐Ÿ’—

I was born and raised in the Middle East pretty much my whole live before moving to the shire, also known as the Ribble Valley in Lancashire. However, I do call Manchester my home and haven't left since 2011 since I came to university here ๐ŸŒด๐Ÿ’–

Some random things:

I have an Art History degree! but always had a passion for food. I think my creative output was channelled into my food and I always love experimenting and learning as much as I can ๐Ÿ’š big up my CAH 2014 alumni.

I was on the radio talking about air fryers ๐Ÿคฃ lol so random but true

I am scared of mascots ๐Ÿซฃ always have been

I really don't like ketchup (apart from Banana Ketchup) ๐Ÿคฃ

are sweet crispy Filipino spring rolls filled with usually Filipino banana (Saba) or another great alternative is plantain. This time round, these Turon are filled with banana, cinnamon and brown sugar. These are served with my rather tasty Vegan salted sauce ๐Ÿฅฅ๐ŸŒด

This weekend will be our kitchen takeover with the amazing May from . The menu is entirely different to last time and it has all the classic Burmese dishes for you to enjoy! โœจ

May's food is absolutely delicious and is not to be missed!
For anyone wanting to make a booking, this is a walk ins event only unless you are a large group- do get in touch with ourselves or May to arrange. We've turned the bookings off as people may get confused with our kitchen being open this weekend.

Our Pandan and Mango cakes have been so popular this week and it's no wonder why! and is such a great combination and one of our favourites! we have two in this flavour on the deli counter for you to enjoy! โœจ๐Ÿฅญ

This is our Vegan ๐ŸŒฟ version which is down to it's last few slices but we have plenty more vegan options (cake wise) on the deli option for you to choose from! โœจ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

I just wanted to let everyone know that we have an exciting kitchen takeover this weekend, Saturday June 15th with the legends behind Dumpling Lam!๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅโœจ

Come join us for a delicious pop up by Siu Mai bar, for a delicious day of dumplings and Hong Kong inspired wares. If you came to our 1st bday last year- youโ€™ll know how great these dumplings are!

Dumpling Lam is a mother and son business based in Manchester. The name is derived from their family name โ€œLamโ€ and it fits together with Frankie and his mum specialising in-Hong Kong-style Siu Mai dumplings ๐Ÿคฉ

Our kitchen will be closed but we will have Frankie and his mum serving some delicious food alongside our regular drinks offerings, tasty Asian inspired cakes and retail.

Whilst business doesn't entirely rely on reviews and we are very lucky to have an amazing customer base, it does help small businesses for visibility to others on the wider internet! ๐Ÿ’š

We sadly do get some really unhelpful or even recently, racist reviews that Google doesn't seem to want to get rid of which is really annoying and so unfortunate. To combat this and to help the algorithm, positive reviews do work with pushing those to the bottom. We even got a review from someone who had never even visited ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜ญ and they get given the space to write what they want and it affects our ratings ๐Ÿฅบ

If you've visited or are one of our repeat customers and fancy taking a few minutes to share what you love what we do at Yes Lah, please do! It definitely helps us as a small business and we would be so so grateful ๐Ÿ™

One of my favourite things to drink in The Philippines is coming to sunny Manchester. Refreshing and absolutely delicious..for any mango lovers this is going to be your new favourite drink! ๐ŸŒžโœจ

A few tweaks and it will be on the menu as soon as we are completely happy with it. Brilliant news as well, we are making this completely Vegan so everyone can have it.

A really really big thank you to everyone who came and visited this week and this weekend. Thank you for your patience when it's been busy as I find my rhythm cooking the new menu! โœจ๐Ÿ™

Yesterday we had a yoga and brunch class with and I've not shared what the guests got to eat. Coincidentally all our guests chose the same option on the day and I really enjoyed plating this up for their brunch after yoga. Everyone chose Tortang Talong as their option! ๐Ÿ†

As it's Filipino food month, here is another Filipino favourite of mine- Tortang Talong ๐Ÿ†โœจ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

Tortang Talong is a smokey aubergine omelette often served during the day that you eat with rice and condiments, such as Banana ketchup or sawsawans like S**a ( spicy vinegar) or Toyo (a soy dip). Pictured here is the Tortang Talong with some pickles and also a toyo dip which is flavoured with soy, fresh lime, garlic and chilli. I didn't have a bottle of my BK spare but I let the yogis try their brunch with my Hot Zos which everyone thoroughly enjoyed!! ๐Ÿ˜

It's been a little while since I popped my face on here and we have had a few new followers and a little time has passed since I've been back. I thought I'd do a little reintroduction of myself, especially with this week being the โœจfinalโœจ week of the current menu and things are switching up next month! โœจ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

Mabuhay/hello everyone I'm Zosima or Zos and I run Yes Lah!
I am half Filipino ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ and half English, born and bred in Saudi Arabia but I have called Manchester my home since 2011.I have worked all over Manchester in various hospitality jobs from bar work in clubs to kitchens, where I found my passion to pursue cooking full time outside of loving to feed people at home โ˜€๏ธ

From cooking Jamaican food at SK, running a deli to doing various events, supperclubs and other catering jobs for others- I took the plunge and launched Mama Z in 2018 full time. I did various pop ups and street food events across the North West before doing my first summer residency at Hatch, Oxford Road which was my first taste of having a permanent place and now here we are! nearly 2 years later being in Didsbury (albeit a little differently than how it started) serving tasty food and drinks, and hosting incredible workshops and events at 102 Barlow Moor Road ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’–

I've had the pleasure of working alongside and meeting so many amazing people along the way through my career in this city which is probably why I haven't left! I love how close the community is and it's also just mega to be able to collaborate with others in a space that I can call my own.

I feel very lucky and privileged to be able to do that, but I am also immensely proud of the hard work that it has taken to get here- esp with the support of so many of you who have visited or initially invested before YL opened. All businesses come with it's challenges but it's literally all I've ever wanted to do so do this full time is something I've dreamt of since uni (lol my uni pals will know this!) ๐Ÿคฃ

After getting a lot of love from my post over on on my Filipino breakfast post I wanted to do a kit where you can also experience a Filipino breakfast in the comfort of your own home! ๐Ÿ’š

What's a Silog? ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

Well, there are many types of Silog to get but it means to eat with rice- specifically garlic fried rice...the best !! At Yes Lah we have our Tocilog bowl which plays homage to one type of Silog with our in-house Chicken Tocino which is a delicious sweet cured garlic chicken ๐Ÿ˜

In the Silog boxes we also have a few additions like crispy anchovies, S**a (spicy vinegar), pickled cucumber and all the garnishes so you can enjoy a Filipino breakfast like I did many times when I was away in Jan! They are so tasty and you obviously don't have to eat it for breakfast, but this is commonly eaten for breakfast in The Philippines as a hearty meal to keep you full and going all day! โœจ๐ŸŒด

I will change the Silog meats up according to demand but for now, the Silog boxes are with our in-house Chicken Tocino as part of the box. Looking forward to hopefully boxing these up and you all putting these together at home! ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

"We call the coconut tree the king of trees" ๐Ÿ‘‘

I was fortunate enough to be able to watch how a friend's family kitchen worked and although I did ask to help with the cooking, Tita Thelma wouldn't let me so I watched and learnt.

Here, I watched fresh coconut milk being squeezed to be turned into a variety of dishes that night for dinner. This is done fresh every day, with the coconuts that grow straight outside on the beach. You can't get any fresher than that and you could taste that in Thelmas food and cooking ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

I watched as the coconut flesh gets grated before being soaked with a bit of hot water and squeezed at different stages to get the milk. I watched as the first and second squeezes of coconut milk were used for different dishes. The different stages of the coconut milk production being squeezed, produces different viscosity. Considering the majority of us only have access to the coconut milk in a can, watching this labour of love really felt special and was amazing to watch and learn! everything done by hand, everything done without cutting corners โœจ

Thelma told me that the coconut tree was the "king of trees" because of its many uses: the sweet water to drink, the flesh for it's coconut milk, the husks for natural kindling and the leaves are used for skewers. It really is the most giving of trees and it's no wonder as to its name! ๐Ÿ˜

My last final full day in the Philippines was spent going to local markets and eating some delicious street food, before buying some last minute bits and hanging out with a dear friend from Saudi .kronicles and being shown around Makati ๐Ÿ’š

I had to post about our dinner last night because it was just SO GOOD and was just the best meal after a few drinks last night. This place was actually on my list to go to and it was ace to be taken there by a Makati resident and to share the experience together! I can't really say anything apart from WOW as it was actually sublime ๐Ÿคฉ

Chicken Inasal is an institution in the Filipino BBQ game and the regions pioneering this is in Bacolod and Iloilo. Fragrant BBQ chicken marinated in lemongrass, garlic and vinegar is then grilled to perfection and basted with annatto chicken oil. You then enjoy this with garlic rice, doused in the same annatto chicken oil and enjoyed with your hands! So dreamy. Of course, no Inasal would be complete without the sawsawan with chillies, calamansi and S**a or Toyo ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญโœจ

I absolutely inhaled this dinner and enjoyed it so so much. Such a lovely end to a great day out. We have time to kill before our flight home later and it's a bitter sweet feeling of sad and also happy to return home.

Looking forward to squeezing my furr babies but I am also going to miss the magic of the Philippines. Looking forward to getting stuck back into work feeling much more energised, inspired and rested...maraming salamat to the Philippines for doing this for me and making me feel closer to who I am and where I'm from- it's like I never left ๐Ÿ’–

A big hello from the Philippines and also a big thank you to everyone who came through this weekend and ate some of amazing food! It's been lovely to see your pics! โœจ๐Ÿ™

I just wanted to give a little update whilst I have been on my travels, soaking up the sights, the smells and reconnecting with The Philippines. I'm posting more regularly via my other page if you want to follow there for my daily adventures! ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ๐ŸŒด

Here is a picture of just one stall at one of my favourite places to peruse and have a look- local markets! It's so good to see what's available and they are so colourful to look at. Markets are so abundant here with gorgeous produce, fruits and vegetables that many locals and businesses will use for some tasty dishes ๐ŸŒ

Remember-I'm doing a Vegetarian cooking class in March and I have eaten some sublime vegetarian/vegan dishes whilst I've been out here which is giving me soo much inspo for this class! ๐Ÿคค

We have lots of other events and workshops to book for via the website for this year for you to look forward to! Tickets for some are selling out as it's limited spaces so be quick.

Remember will be taking over the kitchen in January so come through for our normal retail and tasty cake and drink offerings but with a taste of Cameroonian cuisine from Ngwafu ,starting Jan 13th ๐Ÿ’š

Juicy prawns stir fried with our own Sambal, green beans and kaffir lime leaves served with hot fresh coconut rice. We would opt for an additional fried egg on top just to complete the dish ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ

We are open 11-4 today for all your Malaysian and Filipino goodness at Yes Lah. We thought we would share our Filipino Tocino- sweet cured in-house chicken that we marinate before frying for our Tocilog ๐Ÿณ๐ŸŒŸ

The chicken is flavoured with lots of garlic, Annatto and other delicious ingredients to give it a sweet, savoury and sticky flavour that we serve with rice, a fried egg and salad. You will find versions of Tocilog all over the Philippines as it's a very popular breakfast dish ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

We get asked a lot if our meat is halal and yes we are. We work with a local butcher that supplies us our meat and this is one of the many FAQ we get. Remember, all our FAQ are on our website! we don't always see your messages on insta, especially during service so plz refer here if you get stuck!๐Ÿ™

We have had A LOT of requests for whole cakes recently which is great but also some of the requests we have had are just not feasible! ๐Ÿ’“

There is only ONE amazing woman aka Yen making all these wonderful cakes (on her day off too btw!!) which is why we have a one week notice policy on our whole cakes to be ordered on our website โœจ

The cakes are not baked on site so we cannot whip one up on the spot and unfortunately a bakery is not our sole business either at Yes Lah so please understand. Whilst we will always try to help, it's also up to the customer to be organised too. It's not on us if you've forgotten your other halfs bday ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿซถ

Our whole cakes are available on our online shop with a few different flavours for you to choose from.
Cakes are to be collected during our open hours a week from ordering.
You can also pre- order in advance, just get in touch via email and we will make a note of it for you โœจ

Cake note:

We will NOT be taking any whole cake orders during October 14-31st as Yen and her family will be away on holiday ๐Ÿ™
