Dowlais Community Centre - brought to you by The Stephens & George Centenary Charitable Trust

Dowlais Community Centre is run by The Stephens and George Centenary Charitable Trust, a literacy charity founded in 2012 to help raise literacy standards in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales. We promote literacy as a form of creative self expression; to improve the lives and futures of young people in the local community and to spread the joy and the power of the written word.

Dowlais Community Centre is home to a fully equipped gym and fitness suite with over 40 classes weekly, many of which are catered for people and young adults with disabilities. With a team of qualified fitness instructors onsite, we offer personal training and a range of fitness challenges for the local community to be involved with.

On our 1.5 acres of land, we have a community garden which has been awarded a Green Flag Award, a large children's play area and plenty of parking. We make the most of this outdoor space with many outdoor activities such as foraging and woodwork, supported by our own hashtag #nophonesorcomputers.

Our large heated hall can be hired out for everything from craft shows to birthday parties. We run our own weekly table top sales on a Saturday morning with all proceeds going to the trust. We offer many after school clubs and camps in our hall, alongside the award winning Baby Bookworm Project where families with young children can come together and enjoy reading, crafts and other activities.
