Our recent colour in landscape workshop was very serious and very dramatic, as you can see from the photos. The concentration is palpable 🙃

Although landscape painting is a serious business, I’m glad everyone still had a good time and we got some excellent mini contemporary landscape paintings out of it

Week 1 - IN the WINDOW of the Masham Gallery, you can see pieces by our project artist

👉Aimee has been commissioned to deliver ‘Wish you were Here’, our little contribution to ‘Make it More Middlesbrough’ (produced by Navigator North )

🖼 A contemporary visual artist based in the North East; Aimee Charlotte explores our shared culture through painting and , both traditional and digital. Her work combines themes of psychology and mythology with popular imagery, as well as drawing from the post-industrial landscape and the culture of the North East
Aimee’s work is laced with narrative, symbolism and dark humour, presented in a colourful and surrealist style

Today is her first day working in the project space, wish her luck.

What beautiful places do you notice that other people don't?

What do you wish people knew about your town?

🦕 Sometimes I go to the dinosaur park, sit in the car park and eat my lunch. I have no idea why there's a dinosaur park here. But there is.

I wouldn't be surprised if hardly anyone knew we have a park full of giant steel dinosaurs.

🦋 I’m also not sure why the town centre skyline is full of butterflies, I like it though.

'Wish You Were Here' is a visual arts project designed by us and produced by Navigator North as part of the Heritage Open Days

Inspired by Middlesbrough’s culture, venues and heritage - we're exploring Middlesbrough from a local perspective; as a destination with places of beauty, significance and interest that anyone would love to visit.

The project aims to create a series of artist works about the area, which will be printed as a range of postcards. The postcards will be distributed, and hopefully shared with the world to show what the town has to offer to its visitors and residents.

Artist Aimee Charlotte will be running a live studio space in the Masham Gallery for the duration of September - Visitors will have the chance to find out about the methods being used to create the work and see the final image.

'Make It More Middlesbrough': The opening exhibition is Saturday 9th September 11am - 4pm.

🖼 The Masham, 27 Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough, TS1 1RL
Live project runs from Sat 9 Sep - Sun 8 Oct

Working in partnership with Navigator North we're quite excited to announce our contribution to their LIVE project: ‘Make it More Middlesbrough'- (as we're in Middlesbrough, and making more of it is a great idea.)

🎤 “Acting as a live project space our exhibition will grow and develop during the programme, allowing people to share their own stories and creative responses with each other and the public. We’ll be sharing the work of artists and creatives and offering opportunities to learn new skills and get involved in activity programmes, meet new people and perhaps get to know Middlesbrough and its heritage a little bit better." - Navigator

✏️As part of an artist residency, we've commissioned artist to run 'Wish You Were Here'- a postcard from Middlesbrough - where she'll be exploring the lesser-known tourist attractions of Teesside

🌇 Make It More Middlesbrough: opening exhibition is TODAY (Saturday 9th September 11am-4pm.) Everyone welcome. Almost certainly refreshments provided

🏫The Masham Gallery, 27 Linthorpe Road (Town Centre)
Live project runs from Sat 9 Sep - Sun 8 Oct
