Happy New Year from us all at Milngavie Music Club! We're looking forward to continuing our International Concert Series on Friday 31 January with one of Scotland's most highly talented young ensembles, the Lark Piano Trio. They'll be playing Schumann and a piece by American composer Jennifer Higdon. But by far the biggest piece in their programme is Tchaikovsky's magnificent, epic Trio in A minor. Bleak mid-winter is just when you need the warm, passionate intensity of this Russian romantic masterpiece, so come and join us at Cairns Church at 7.30 on the 31st! Congratulations to the 185 or so brave people who came out in terrible weather last Friday night to hear the beautiful playing of oboist Armand Djikoloum and pianist Iyad Sughayer! Don’t miss Ryan Corbett in concert for Music at St Cyprian's Lenzie next Saturday, 30th November at 7.30. Tickets are a snip at £12.50
Ryan has stepped into the breach and rescued the concert after Trio Alma had to pull out because of illness.

Trio Alma have sadly had to withdraw from Saturday’s concert because of illness. However, at very short notice we have successfully persuaded award winning virtuoso accordionist Ryan Corbett to come and entertain us at St Cyprian’s. So make sure you don’t miss this wonderful opportunity. Concert starts at 7.30 pm, St Cyprian’s Church, Saturday 30th November. The superb Marmen String Quartet give our next concert in Cairns Church, this Friday 25 October at 7.30. It's a fantastic programme featuring Ravel's only, very lovely Quartet, Bartok's exciting 3rd Quartet and one of the great master Mozart's finest - the 'Dissonance' Quartet, K465. What a great start to our 2024-25 season on Friday evening! A full house at Cairns Church greeted the fabulous Brodsky Quartet with huge enthusiasm. Our thanks to the quartet for their artistry and welcome to all the many new subscribers who joined the audience.

Single online tickets for the Brodsky Quartet on 4 October are now sold out. Some tickets are still available for in-person booking at The Honeybee Bakery, 48 Station Rd, Milngavie. Season Tickets (8 concerts) are still available on payment of the subscription fee of £100 at Cairns Church prior to the concert.

Meet the winner of the Arts and Heritage Champion category at the 2024 Provost Community Champion Awards!

Pat Field created TheMusicHub in 2022 with support from Milngavie Music Club. Her in depth knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm has made the venture a great success loved by participants and growing each year.

The aim of TheMusicHub is to create chamber music in an informal, relaxed, fun environment including musicians of all ages and levels. Each week Pat curate’s music to play which will stretch players and provide them with an opportunity to improve skills in listening, collaboration, musicality and technical skills.

On average the group now has 16 players each week on violin, viola and cello, ranging from teenagers to octogenarians, with varied experience and skill. The benefits that participants have gained range from tackling loneliness and isolation, to improved moods, friendships and a feeling of community.

Pat was presented her award by Provost Gillian Renwick and Depute Provost Colette McDiarmid.

As she was presented with her Award Pat said, “I am passionate about community and music, and many of our members have found The Music Hub has not only developed their musical creativity but has improved their mental health. We are first and foremost a community group and we all get so much out of spending time together. Players have met people from many walks of life at The Music Hub but their shared interest in music has allowed them to bond into a thriving and developing social group. I hope to expand the idea of The Music Hub to the seventy or so other music clubs in Scotland.

“I feel extremely honoured to have received a Provost’s Community Champion Arts & Heritage Award and I am very touched to have been nominated by my good friends at The Music Hub.”

Junyan Chen is Runner-up and also takes the Chamber Music Prize at the Leeds Piano Competition! Junyan was the brilliant pianist who gave a superb recital at MMC with cellist Hugh Mackay last season and we couldn't be more delighted that she has done so well in this, one of the world's leading piano competitions - warmest congratulations from everyone at Milngavie Music Club, Junyan!

Great news! East Dunbartonshire Council has just announced the Provost's Community Champion Award Winners for 2024 and our very own Pat Field has won the award for Arts and Heritage! This is for Pat's inspirational work in setting up and leading MMC's Music Hub, our wonderful community of amateur chamber musicians.
