A good start to the weekend….
The weekend starts here:
TALKBACK With TEAA member Marc Layton of LaytonDings Entertainment
How long has your agency been trading?
Laytondings has been trading since 2014, formally Layton Entertainments, but Dings had been trading for over 40 years.
Why did you become an agent?
From working on the cruises and holiday parks, I had an interest in the booking side of the business and had an opportunity to join the booking team that then became an agency.
What type of artists do you represent?
We represent all different styles of artistes, tributes, bands, speciality, comedians, magicians, illusionists & DJ’s.
What type of venues do you work with?
We work mostly with the holiday parks & cruises, but have clients all over the world.
What geographical areas do you work in?
The majority of our bookings are UK based, but we also have offices in the US which give us global booking power and client opportunities.
What do you love most about being and agent?
I love the fact that the days can be different. One day you can be booking something locally, and the next you can be working on an event in Australia (that doesn’t happen that often lol)! Working with acts to fulfil their goals and build a career path with them.
Who inspires you?
I was mentored by Tommy Dee (head of Bourne Leisure), from a young age. He was always very black & white with no messing.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to enter the agency business?
Work hard, be honest, transparent and approachable. Try and help when you can, but if you can’t help, say so and don’t try and bluff your way through.
What one thing, either industry related or not, did you learn in the last month?
My children will be auditioning for a West End show!
How long have you been a member of TEAA?
10 years.
What’s the best thing about being a member of TEAA?
The support and networking available to us all.
