I honestly so grateful to have such a wonderful team at The Flower Project. I have been really ill recently and to know the shop is in safe hands is amazing. I am hoping to start to feel better soon but in the meantime here in an autumnal bunch that went out last week. Thank you for your continued support, and heres to a new week 🥂

Last week we did 5 lovely weddings and it was so fun to create different styles for each person. We don’t do a off the shelf range because we want the flowers to be completely bespoke to you and we try to work with local growers and what is in season, although that has been difficult with the weather this year there has been times when we couldn’t get any locally grown or just a few, we are hoping next year will be better for our growers. This picture is of wedding flowers ready to go out for delivery, I like how you can see the mess on the floor in it as well, ready for me to sweep up once I got back 🧹.

Colourful and bright wedding flowers at the lovely I had never walked around Newnham before but wow what a gorgeous building and gardens.
It is such a great feeling when the flowers you are using are growing just outside in the gardens. Seasonal flowers and as many locally grown as we get get our hands on.

Happy Monday Everyone 💚
This week we have our sold out kokedama workshop happening on Wednesday and we have beautiful wedding flowers to arrange on Saturday. We are also going to be putting out some new workshop dates including our Christmas Wreath Workshop. They sold out last year in two weeks so we had to keep adding more dates 🙈 Hopefully we have the right amount of dates this year. Also if you are interested in private workshops for work parties or a group of friends, send us a DM and we can sort that out for you.

Come learn the art of Kokedama in a relaxed and friendly environment. Don’t just take our word for it. “The kokedama workshop was great fun and fantastic value. We have a fabulous time and left with a couple of very generous kokedamas each, which make for a really nice way to display plants. Our host was great and the complimentary prosecco was a great touch.” - James previous attendee 😊

We've been learning how to propagate a few plants in the shop from this really great book!

Propagate by Paul Anderson teaches you how to take cuttings and regrow any houseplant. It's a fantastic source of information on making more plants from the plants you already have.

Workspace 🌼
When I first got the shop almost a couple of years ago I didn’t take into consideration how we would do weddings and events in a shop with it being so small. I ended up doing them after the shop was closed and working through the night to get them done. The last few months Josh has been working hard on building a studio in my back garden for this purpose. It’s not finished yet but this weekend I got to test it out and it was amazing. The walls are made from h**p so the space stayed really cool and the light and space is perfect. I can’t wait for it to be finished so I can move in properly and create ✨

CLOSED TUESDAY 🧡
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but due to the heat (predicted 40degrees), we would really struggle keeping fresh flowers alive, the shop has no air con and cycle delivering wouldn’t be fair on the team.
Back to normal Wednesday and I will try to get back to everyone emailing asap, we have had a busy weekend setting up weddings.

Today we're sharing care tips for one of the favourites in the shop - mother of Thousands.

These cute little plants are known by numerous other names – Mexican Hat Plant, Alligator Plant, and Devil’s Backbone. A native of Madagascar, the plant is a succulent that grows up from one stem.

The most unique part of this plant is the tiny plantlets that grow along the edges of their leaves. The plantlets will drop from the main plant, trying to take root wherever they land and find soil appropriate for growth.

Shop ready last Sunday for our summer workshop. It is always a pleasure to teach workshops and show people how to do something new. We always get told how relaxing our workshops are and giving someone time and space to fully focus on being creative 🧡

Monstera deliciosa are easy to care for and fast-growing - so give them some space to spread out. As the Monstera grows, its leaves will develop long ribbons and holes, resembling Swiss cheese and are therefore called Swiss Cheese plants or the Hurricane plant and Fruit Salad plant.

This tropical plant originates from the rainforests of southern Mexico and is extremely adaptable to indoor conditions. Monsteras are climbers, so as they grow, they will want to vine out. They are also tolerant of the occasional missed watering.

Before I started floristry, my first real love with flowers was flower pressing, I used to take a flower press out walking Carter and collect wild flowers and leaves, then make gifts and cards for family and friends. I used to love seeing how certain flowers would come out. Not always successful but that was the joy of finding out. I am so excited to be selling flower presses in the shop now and we have a lovely book The Modern Flower Press by to help guide you and inspire you ✨

I don’t know how many people know about my journey into floristry and starting The Flower Project, but before I even thought about it I really got into flower pressing, I loved going on walks with Carter and collecting a few flowers and leaves to press. I used to make cards and gifts for family and friends. This was my first experience with flowers really before I did my own wedding flowers and everything changed for me.

This week Clare created this bespoke dried flower Garland for a customer to go above a mirror. Using almost all British flowers with hints of yellows, pinks and purples.

It’s this week and we did a slightly smaller display this year to celebrate due to the heat. I just wanted to thank all the amazing hardworking British flower farmers out there, they are the hardest working people I know and I am always in awe when I go to the farms. More flower farmers seem to be popping up and I hope the industry keeps changing to more sustainable ways, not just plastic and foam free (which is great obviously) but where are your flowers grown, are they grown sustainably and are the people working on the farms paid fairly and treated well. All these things matter and we are trying our best to show you can do floristry another way. We are not perfect, but we try to make positive changes everyday.

Doing the finishing touches ✨
I love the last touches I do at wedding and events to make sure everything is perfect. Walking around making sure everything is just right and how I hoped it would be. This weekend I have three weddings and preparation has already started. It’s going to be a busy one.

This photo was taken a couple of weeks ago, I can tell by the flowers the season has ended for now. Changing of seasons is an absolute joy to work with, I miss some flowers when the season ends but I know they will be back next year 💚

Adding a pop of colour.
Remember in one of my last posts I mentioned that this time of year is difficult to get British local grown flowers because it is the end spring flowers and the beginning of summer flowers. During this time we have to substitute a little more from further afield because a florist shop needs flowers.
We are as sustainable as we can be and we try everyday to improve because no one is perfect but some things you just can’t change I.e the weather and how fast flowers grow😊
