DJs are everywhere, there is no short supply of them and they can be replaced in a moments notice.

Ok we got that out of the way

When I moved to San Antonio, I was warned that many promoters don't pay their DJs and people were correct.

If there's an event I put together, where I am unable to pay the DJs, I will reach out to them, let them know and do my best to still make it worthwhile for them by making a gift bag whenever possible.

Besides a very rare situation. I will always pay my DJs every single time and pay them when they come through the door or send it to them digitally.

There are rare moments when I have to pay them at a later time.

Here in San Antonio, I can't pay them what I wish I could, but I do my best and there are times when I lose out and pay out more than what I make.

That's the risk I take and I'm ok with it

I can't stand and do not respect promoters who have successful events and never pay the DJ.

The reason your event was a success is most likely due to the DJs you booked and their help in promoting the event.

You say the DJ didn't promote the event for you? Then pay him/her and don't book them again.

I know many DJs are either afraid to ask for money or are just djing for the fun of it.

Ask how much will you be getting paid. Even if it's $25. The pay can depend on the night, people that show up, cost to enter, etc.

What about those great drink tickets you get?

The promoter isn't paying for those tickets and it only costs the bar pocket change compared to what they charge. So drink tickets are cool but "What am I getting paid?"

Wedding DJs and others making the real money, I see you and this is not about you lol.

I just hate greedy promoters who make a profit and don't share the wealth.

Get a day job if you can't afford to pay your DJs.
