HALL HISTORY 🤍

We get asked all the time for the history of the Hall, so we thought we would put a post together for just that! Soughton Hall is a Grade II* listed house, built in 1720 and remodelled in 1820 by its then incumbent, William John Bankes, who was an Egyptologist and friend of Lord Byron. Having travelled across North Africa and the Middle East, he was inspired by Islamic and Moorish design he had seen and commissioned Sir Charles Barry (who would later design the Houses of Parliament) to create a “showpiece” house.

Master Suite 🌸🥂 This room was originally the School Room for the children, and the en suite was the Flower Room for all the fresh flowers to be cut and arranged for the house. The black marble fireplace was designed by John Douglas, who also designed the infamous clock tower in the heart of Chester. He also designed our beautiful Game Lodge and the Lodge on the Soughton Hall grounds. You asked for more history! There’s so much more to come!
