Just back from 2 full days of ASIST su***de prevention training…hard going, thought provoking, emotive and powerful. I wasn’t sure if this was the best time for me to be doing this as my grief is still very raw but, without doubt, it’s been the best course I have ever completed, with a lovely, supportive group of people ❤️

On a lighter note, just before I left this morning, my son’s parting shot to me was…

“Bro, why the HELL are you dressed like Harry Styles today?!”

Love you son 💙🤣💙

It was a special day yesterday as we celebrated the life of my Grandpa at Brewsterwells Crematorium.

Supported by the fabulous Dale, from Selwood Funeral Directors, we arranged a bespoke service which was reflective of the person he was…

❤️ My Grandpa was a Pipe Major and so Dale arranged for him to be accompanied by a lone piper, playing the most beautiful tunes

❤️ He loved a Famous Grouse and Canada Dry and as we reflected upon his life, we watched a slideshow of some of our favourite photographed moments and listened to his favourite Dean Martin song, with a wee dram in hand 🥃

❤️ He had a beautiful relationship with his Great Grandsons and both boys stood up and shared lovely stories during the service

❤️ His eulogy contained extracts of his hand written, personal memoirs

❤️ As the service came to a close, a video of the last time my Grandpa played a full set of pipes, at a Hogmanay Party, was played on screen and echoed through the speakers with our guests singing, clapping and toe tapping along

I know I’m bias but Celebrant led ceremonies really are the best! These personalised and creative touches just make them so memorable.

As family and friends were leaving, they told me they shouldn’t have ‘enjoyed’ the service but they did…I’m pleased and honoured that they enjoyed it…my Grandpa led a full life and he wouldn’t have wanted it any other way 🥃

💕 𝓘𝓽’𝓼 𝓪𝓵𝓵 𝓲𝓷 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓷𝓪𝓶𝓮 💕

I’ve been asked recently about the origins of the name “Mooncloud” and the reasons for calling my business this 💕

This was a simple decision for me…

Before I became a married ‘Mooney’ I was a ‘MacLeod’ and I loved my Scottish clan maiden name so much 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

My hubby and I were married on a whim in NYC (for another post!) and we didn’t get the time to talk about sensible things like married names beforehand 🙃

Before I knew it, I had signed the marriage register as ‘MacLeod-Mooney’ and it stuck!

I became Mrs Mooncloud to some of our friends (although I stopped short of making it my Class Teacher name!) and my mum is now an adored ‘Granny Mooncloud’ to my two boys 💕

‘Mooncloud Ceremonies’ really is a part of me 💕💕💕

To the lady who inspired my journey to becoming a Celebrant…this first post belongs to you Grandma 💕💕💕

For years my Grandma always told me she wanted me to ‘do her funeral’ and I had no idea why…I’m a teacher and I thought the only people who could conduct funerals were ministers 🤔

When her time sadly came in September 2021, I really wanted to honour her wish in some way and so after speaking to the Celebrant we were recommended to use by the Funeral Directors, I wrote down some memories and stood in front of the congregation to talk about them. I’m so glad I did…it felt like the right thing to do and I was honoured to get to tell my Grandma’s stories in a way that she would have loved 💕 Her service was completely personalised and unique and I realised that end of life ceremonies didn’t need to follow a set plan!

Afterwards, the Funeral Director told my mum that I was ‘a celebrant in the making’ 🥰 So I signed up to The Academy of Modern Celebrancy and here I am now…fully qualified and ready to start my Celebrant Journey…helping people in their time of need whilst doing something I love!
