So the Northern lights (Aurora Borealis) will be visible for much of the UK tonight with a possible KP5 so this will mean visible as far south as northern England.
Someone asked me how to photograph them so here is a few of the suggestions I gave. We don't want the moon but unfortunately, it will rise in the east at 10pm. By 3AM it will be due south. We don't want cloud cover but as per usual there will be a fair bit going around. (check your detailed hourly forecast for your area) Here in the highland looks like 1am to 3am might be clear. Quick setting F2.8, focus to infinity and switch off automatic focus. ISO 1600-3200 range, looking for about 15-sec exposure move your iso to achieve the length of exposure you need. on manual expo just remember after 15 secs the stars will start to trail. You will need a tripod and have it facing north. Get some foreground interest in the shot.
