Releasing Doves is a perfect alternative.

"Pulled this balloon and pieces of a couple others from the field this morn. My sheep had already been chewing on them. For those that let balloons go for celebrations or ceremonies, while the sentiment is sweet as are the intentions. The balloons don't actually go to heaven, instead they land in our fields or in our waterways or in forests, for curious animals to choke on. They never biodegrade and never go away."

Perhaps the saddest funeral poem, infamous for its part in ‘Four weddings and a funeral’. Not sure I’d get through the reading of this, but followed by the release of doves would make a truly beautiful end to a service. 💔

Something I am often asked following a release is “how do you get the doves back in the basket?”
Using their amazing natural homing instincts they actually fly home! More often than not they make it before me and are sitting on the roof waiting for their tea!
