The Curry Pincher

The Curry Pincher Sri Lankan Street Food for pop-ups, markets and private catering. Private cookery lessons available

What can I say about me... well I started cooking when I was very young, in fact I think I first learnt to cook rice and dhal when I was about 6 in miniature clay pots someone bought me as a gift, on a fire in the garden. Both my parents were Dutch Sri Lankan and both were prolific cooks. Not a day went by without one or other of them cooking up something experimental or traditional (and of course

spending a lot of time telling the other one what they could do better!). I have long held a dream of starting a food business but it was not until late last year that I found myself in the position of being able to do so and it took quite some months of thought and encouragement to get here. The name "The Curry Pincher" is derived from the Sri Lankan word for curry leaves, "Karapincha". My food is personal to me, and I'm really looking forward to sharing that with you.

Kiri Hodi, a much loved mild coconut gravy. Don’t be fooled by the green chillies, they are kept whole so that none of the heat of the chilli is transferred to sauce, only the flavour. This unctuous gravy is very versatile, try with potatoes or green mango or maybe roasted root veg for a simple but delicious curry. If you want the recipe just comment recipe please below and I will send it to you!

Another customer order completed and delivered at the weekend. They requested a special fish curry, which is a very traditional dish, along with ala bola (potato and cashew balls), lamb rolls, jackfruit curry and all the much loved side dishes. Some initial feedback: “Fish dish was particularly excellent”, “potato balls very lovely”, “sublime!” So happy when a customer loves their food, this is why I do what I do.

Mr CP has been at it again, he found a recipe by .pirathapan for a Sri Lankan twist on a fish pie and surprised me with it for dinner. My goodness, it’s a banger! A rich and delicious sauce, covering succulent pieces of fish and prawns, topped with mildly spiced mash. All served up with some pimped peas. You can guarantee this will be available to order in the new year.

Nothing smells more like Christmas than a Sri Lankan Love Cake baking, filling the house with the aroma of cardamon, cinnamon, nutmeg and rosewater. A truly unique cake, sweet with honey and Arack, and slightly fudgie in the middle with cashews and semolina. I’ve never tasted anything else like it, and it reminds me so much of Christmas at home. The customer who ordered this gorgeous cake is in for a real treat!

The end of a nice week off after the crazy brilliance of our last pop up. Mr CP made a delicious twist on a classic shakshuka for brekkie and served it up with his homemade rye sourdough manchets.
