ATTENTION treasured friends of Prohibition Cabaret Bar! I'd like to take a moment to highlight one of our upcoming events - an evening of phenomenal blues music on Friday 27th September.

We're thrilled to be hosting outstanding, authentic blues duo Nothing in Rambling. Comprising Sister Suzie with her powerful, soulful vocals and Andy Twyman, blues guitar expert, Nothing in Rambling are guided by a love of early blues music so expect to hear the influences of Mississippi and Louisiana.

The duo have toured all around the country and will even be releasing their debut album at the start of October, so we're so excited to have them come here for an exclusive performance.

Nothing in Rambling are also being supported by highly acclaimed local blues musicians Michael Littlefield and Lyndon Anderson.

Tickets are £10+bf and doors on the night open at 6pm.

If you want to get in on this fantastic night then visit the site linked below for full information and ticket purchasing options:

HEAR YE, HEAR YE!! We're now into the month of September (scary, innit) and that means well and truly on the horizon is the second ever Newcastle Burlesque Festival!! From Wednesday 25th September to Sunday 29th September you can get involved in The House of Trixie Blue's five day celebration of the incredible talent and utter joy that can be found in the Burlesque scene of the North East and wider world.

Burlesque is a huge part of our identity here at Prohibition so we're incredibly excited to host two of the shows (the late night shows on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th) as well as having the honour of being one of the festival's two full sponsors.

The festival as a whole will be an incredible demonstration of this widely loved art form; a huge amount of work and passion has gone into everything involved - there will be an online show, local and out of town talent showcases, an X-***ed show and even a bit of a karaoke and burlesque fusion, and more besides for you to witness and be a part of.

Tickets are still available for some of the festival's events so the opportunity is very much still there to get involved:

Full information for each show as well as ticket purchasing options can be found here:

ATTENTION treasured friends of Prohibition Cabaret Bar! We've suddenly got a night to fill in our fabulous upstairs venue! Next Friday 30th August has become available for anyone to make use of.

It's a 60 person max capacity venue with a full sound system, a stage area and an exclusive bar. It's available between 6pm and midnight (use as much or as little of that time as you like) and, as it's relatively short notice, we're offering it for no hire fee - just bring a crowd along to buy drinks and we'll be happy.

So if you've got a birthday, engagement or other celebration next weekend and are looking for a venue for you and your loved ones to gather, maybe you want to put on a show or you're in a band that is looking for a space to perform or whatever you may need a city centre location for, let us know and we'll go from there.

Any enquiries contact [email protected]. First come, first serve.

LIVE TONIGHT at Prohibition Cabaret Bar! Good evening, treasured friends and happy Saturday. We just want to reassure you all that Prohibition is open as usual this evening - in fact doors are open right now! This gig will be completely free to enjoy and there'll be a Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm with the live music starting at 8pm.

Upper venue: Grindhouse Events presents a night of DJ fuelled music and dancing from the best decade of the all; It's The 80s!! Spinning a proper range of 80s pop classics from the likes of Prince, Wham, Madonna, Kylie, Pet Shop Boys, Tears For Fears, Frankie, A-Ha, Culture Club, Roxette, Erasure, Duran Duran and much more (I mean, there's an endless amount to chose from, isn't there). Over 3000 Geordies say HATE is NOT welcome in Newcastle 👏🏼 🙏🏼

This is the scene as thousands of proud Geordies gathered in Newcastle's West End last night in a counter protest in what were described as moving scenes outside The Beacon on Westgate Road, an immigration centre targeted by the far-right. A protective wall of love, community and strength stood firm between the hateful and racist protestors and the Centre. Demonstrators held up signs reading "Geordies are of all colours" and "We love our West End".

This is Newcastle, united. ❤️ 🖤 🤍 🤎

Good evening, treasured friends of Prohibition Cabaret Bar!

As you know Mitch, myself and the whole team here at Prohibition adore bringing you our unique brand of good times with all our hearts - we're as dedicated as ever to our unwavering mission to be a safe haven and a home away from home for all walks of life. Thus it is with a real sense of sorrow to report that we will not open this evening.

I'd love nothing more than to bring you this week's pub quiz and, as always, have our doors open for people to come in and feel at home here, but we cannot ignore the safety issues and travel disruptions certain groups seem hell bent on inflicting upon the vast majority of wonderful people who make Newcastle what it is.

The priority is safety and wellbeing so we encourage you all to stay safe and if possible stay at home. At this time our plans are to keep to our usual schedule from tomorrow onwards so we will be open as normal from 6pm for the rest of the week - we'll update you ASAP if anything else changes.

Have a happy and safe Wednesday evening and we'll see you all real soon

COMING UP THIS WEEKEND at Prohibition Cabaret Bar! August has hit, friends, and the Olympics are on so what better excuse is there to come on down to the 1920s and enjoy some live music (I mean, there's never a wrong time for live music).

Fri 2nd: This Friday night we are delighted to be joined by classically trained singer Carmen Silk, a phenomenal local vocalist who will be treating us to an evening of Classics With Carmen. Delivering an intimate mix of jazz, swing, blues and showtunes, Carmen will take inspiration from artists such as Liza Minelli, Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee and much more. This show is completely free to enjoy and we'll have the old Jar on the Bar out for your generous cash donations. Live music from 8pm.

The bar opens at 6pm with doors for upstairs at 7:30pm Pay as you Feel!

Sat 3rd: Then on Saturday evening we’ve got some fantastic live music lined up for you all with local musicians Stuart Turner and David Gray. It'll be amazing! This gig will be completely free and we’ll have the ol’ Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors will open at 6pm with the live music from 8pm

Sat 3rd (Upper Venue) Up on our first floor venue we've got Strange as Angels: a night of Darkwave, Coldwave and Dark House with DJ Orpheus! ATTENTION treasured friends of Prohibition Cabaret Bar! A quick moment of your time, please:

Due to a bit of event cancellation and what I'm deciding to call "The Summer Bummers" (it probably won't catch on) we've got an entire weekend where our fabulous private hire venue is completely unused - NEXT WEEKEND! Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd August are both up for grabs in our venue where the next weekend night available isn't until 2025; so it's a rare occurrence!

If you've got a social gathering, a live performance or private party you'd like to birth into the world in short notice then we'd be delighted to host it.

Our hireable venue can fit up to 60 people and it's in-keeping with our famous 1920s style, plus you get the full use of "The Bureau", an additional room kitted out to resemble an old detective's office, including a roll top desk and billiards table.

The main room includes a full sound system and stage area and we can have a projector and screen set up too if needed. There's also a bar that we can have staffed and running and your own facilities separate from the public bar.

As the weekend in question is so upcoming we're more than happy to waive the usual hire fees, we just can't stand the thought of it being unused and empty (it has feelings, ya know). You'd be able to have the space anywhere between 6pm and midnight (as much or as little of that time as you like).

If you're interested please contact [email protected]

Many thanks and as you were.

COMING UP THIS WEEK at Prohibition Cabaret Bar! Well, folks, the football tournament has ended and it may or may not have come home (I'm typing this post out on Sunday afternoon so I just don't know yet).

Not like it ever ended, but it's time for our ever jam packed line-up of outstanding local talent to get back into the full swing of things - let's take a look at what we've got in store for you all this week:

Wed 17th: It's our Weekly Pub Quiz! Join our quizmaster, Danny 'Eyeballs' for four rounds of brain exercise. Come top of the pile and win actual cash money! Fall just short and come in second to win a boozy treat, or failing all that, come rock bottom to earn delicious biscuits for the whole team. £1 entry per person, teams of up to 6 people, quiz starts at 8:30pm

Wed 17th: (Upper Venue) It's our weekly blues dance class, hosted by the fantastic Hoodoo Blues. Come alone or with a partner and learn from expert tutor Melissa Davy all about the art of blues dancing. Like the music itself, blues dancing is all about expression and takin' it easy. All experience levels welcome and the class is drop in, drop out, so don't ever worry if you've not been to one before, you will be well looked after. The class will begin at 7:30pm and run for approximately an hour. If it's your first session then its free to take part and then thereafter it's £7.50 per class (£5 for students/concessions)

Thu 18th: We've got some live jazz standards, popular songs and showtunes from the Great American Songbook brought to us by local musicians Eva Fox & The Jazz Guys. Eva performs regularly with jazz legends Alan Law, Paul Grainger and Tim Johnston, so we're bound to be treated to a top quality performance. This gig will be completely free to enjoy and we'll have the Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm, live music from 8pm

Thu 18th: (Upper Venue) Our upstairs venue is playing host to the monthly networking event Together I'm Possible. Each month the team at Together arrange for two guest speakers to come along and share their stories, past experiences and unique outlooks on life allowing audience members to see things from a new perspective and learn something - be it a new positive attitude, an answer to something specific they've been looking for or simply how to be a better human. Tickets are sold on a "pay as you feel" donation basis. The doors to the bar open at 6pm and upstairs is open from 6.30pm. The first speaker is on from 7pm.

Fri 19th: Roll up, roll up! It's Burlesque night here at Prohibition, presented by the award winning House of Trixie Blue. This month we have in store for you all the more serious, classier show, The Burlesque R***e, where an incredibly talented and glamorous artist from the wonderful world of Burlesque comes along and teats us to a special guest performance. Tickets are just £3+bf and will be available to purchase from 10:30am on Saturday 22nd June. Follow the House of Trixie Blue page (linked above) to find ticket purchasing options. Doors on the night open at 7pm. Fri 19th: (Upper Venue) Hoodoo Blues presents their monthly open-to-all-experience-levels blues dance class and social. Hosted by some highly experienced dancing tutors, the Hoodoo Blues dance class aims to open up the world of blues dancing to any and all while sticking to the core themes of blues dancing - laid back, enjoyable, social and emotive. The class itself runs from 7:30pm - 8:30pm and is £10 to be a part of. From the end of the class at half past 8 the evening transitions smoothly into a dance social to put what you've learned into practice and to enjoy some Friday night blues music and dancing in a comfortable space. If you're just in for the dancing social and not the class then it's only £5 to enter. Runs until midnight.

Sat 20th: Presenting The Northern Railroad Collective, a North East Americana, bluegrass and folk outfit. Inspired by the old timey music of the Appalachian and Americana setting, this five piece have performed at festivals and venues all across Tyneside and Northumberland and we’re thrilled to have them here at Prohibition for the first time – their music and our bar will go together like a little house on a prairie. This gig will be completely free and we’ll have the ol’ Jar on the Bar out for cash donations. Doors open at 6pm with the live music starting from 8pm.

Sun 21st: Attention, ladies and gentlemen! It’s the return of the phenomenal Showtunes and Wine! Hosted by the endlessly charismatic and musically gifted Carmen Silk, who will, as always, delight us with her belting vocals and wonderful stage presence. So come on down, grab yourself a glass of vino (or something else if wine isn’t your thing) and get ready to be entertained. Tickets are £5+bf and can be bought right here. Thu 11th: Live this Thursday evening at Prohibition Cabaret Bar our resident jazz pianist Merlin Roxby will be taking his place at the keys and treating our guests to a jazzy, saloon style performance. Playing vintage piano versions of well known songs, Merlin will provide the perfect backdrop to anyone enjoying a drink in our establishment this evening. This live entertainment is completely free to enjoy and we’ll have the jar on the bar out for any cash donations, all of which go straight to Merlin. Doors open at 6pm, live performance from 8pm.

Fri 12th: We’ve got a great deal of Prohibition style fun and entertainment in store for you this Friday night as we excitedly play host to Jenni Winter’s Sing Along Pian-Oke! Cabaret pianist Jenni Winter returns to the piano to ti**le the ivories while you, the people, will take to the stage and sing. In this monthly event, you’re invited to take your pick from our selection of songs (and even suggest a few for the next edition) grab a glass of Dutch courage and have fun on the Sapphire Stage with the mic in hand. This month we're doing a Disney special so your host, Danny, will be extra happy. Entry is free and we’ll have our Jar on the Bar out for tips for our fantastic pianist. Doors open at 6pm with the fun kicking off at 8pm.
