Hi, Welcome to AJB Aerial Imagery, We are based in Bovey Tracey, South Devon. I was previously working for Parcelforce as a delivery driver but after 5 years of working 10-11 hrs a day I decided I’d had enough. I’d always wanted to be self employed and run my own business from a very young age but never knew how, what, when or where....... but here I am. It all started when I invested in my first camera mainly for a trip of a lifetime to the land down under (Australia) to see one of my good friends, who’d also been living with me before uping sticks and decided to go travelling around Thailand, Bali, Vietnam and then Australia. I was invited to book a plane ticket to go meet him over in Australia, in fact I’d booked my ticket before he’d even booked his to leave England haha. Before leaving I went out, tried the camera out and before I knew it was just going on adventures to grab that perfect shot. Not long after I decided to share my photos on Facebook and Instagram not only getting great respond from friends, family but from people half way across he world. I’d found a new hobby and passion but little did I know that was just the start of it. While in Australia, something caught my eye, something I’d never even thought about before or really heard of, yes you’ve guessed it Drones. After then watching youtube videos for way to many hours, think I was rather brainwashed into the decision but a month after arriving back in the UK I invested in my first drone a Parrot Bebop 2. Still unaware that this was going to grow and grow on me, like my camera I went out to practice flying, mainly to have a bit of fun but then it sort of took over. Every spare gap in my day I would be out hunting to places to fly, photos to capture and videos to film. It wasn’t till I booked a trip to Greece for a week to see my grandparents that I’d realized this was now more than just a hobby. The first thing I did after booking my ticket was find out the rules on taking your drone on a plane, unfortunately the wasn’t much information on it back then so after a phone call to the airline I was jumping for joy and buzzing to go away. While in Skiathos, Greece I found myself out before Sunrise on a quad bike all pre-planned the night before, where the sun rose, best spots etc After two days of constantly riding around all day and evening capturing shots, I became really unwell and after 2 days I was rushed to the mainland for brain scans, lumber puncture and loads of tests. I was there for 2 weeks in there for 10 days but felt like 6 months! but at the same time just being laid on a hospital bed all day hardly able to move, gave me alot of time to think about things, life in general, realize I took every day for granted and think about what I really wanted.
So while recovering, I studied into drones how to fly commercially, what was required etc I was off work for nearly 3 months in total and even then was still totally wiped out. It’s amazing for quickly life can change. Btw if you take anything out of this don’t keep watching youtube videos of things you want because yet again I found myself watching the same video over again, after looking around I still kept coming back to the same video and drone. That was my dream, my goal so while recovering I invested in a Phantom 4 Pro + one the best purchases I’ve ever made! Still my favorite drone today. It wasn’t until 6 months later I would book in to study at CDT, where I gained my PFCO (Permission for commercial operations) after a week long highly intense course and wait was on! 5 weeks later I heard back from the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) to say I had been granted my permissions.
So here I am :)
I will give anything a try as long as it’s Legal to fly and carry out the work purposed 99% of the time can be achieved. I’ve filmed Football pitches, Car shows, Weddings, Muscle cars, Property, Video for school website the list goes on.
