Join us for a creative and calming experience in the heart of nature at North Berwick Flower Co.

We'll begin with a relaxed walk around the flower farm, taking in the colours, textures, and shapes of the seasonal blooms to spark your imagination. Then, back in the workshop space, where Felting Scotland will teach you how to “paint with wool” using the art of needle felting.

Guided step-by-step, you’ll use soft, vibrant wool fibers to create your own wild floral scene inspired by what you’ve seen. A perfect day for slowing down, connecting with nature, and crafting something beautiful by hand - no experience needed!

We are closing registration for our first ever Grow Your own Cut Flower course on 14th March.

Grow along with Fay Gourlay, the Founder of The North Berwick Flower Co., a flower farm based in East Lothian.

Whether you have an established garden, a brand new flower bed or piece of land or no garden at all (container growing will also be covered)…the course will take you through all you need to know to grow and nurture your own blooms to suit our Scottish climate.

You don’t need a greenhouse or any fancy set up to be able to have a full cut flower patch that gives all season long!

The majority of the course is online, packed full of video tutorials, downloadable workbooks and a monthly e-book focusing on one particular flower, plus live Q & As and demos with Fay, each month. There is also a private Facebook group where participants can connect with each other and Fay will be on hand to answer any questions as the group grows along.

There will be visits to the flower field itself with flower arranging workshops as each flower variety comes into bloom, arranging with Dahlias, for example, or how to tie and present a summer bouquet for gifting.

In terms of your commitment to learn with the course, you can attend every online session, or catch-up when you can and learn at your own pace as everything will be recorded and available throughout the length of the course.

The course runs from March – September, following the growing season, and is £8.95 per month for 7 months.

Registration for this course closes on 14th March 2025, click the link below or go to our website to join:

If you would like to grow your own cut flower patch, why not join our online course, with access to our community page where our founder, Fay Gourlay will be available to answer any growing questions, 'grow along' videos, downloadable workbooks and access to our tutorial video library to le...

One of my all time favourite fillers for a bouquet…Verbena Bonariensis.

A beautiful colour and adds a meadowy feel to a display with its gorgeous structure.

It is also a perennial so will come back year after year (well, only if you are in a sheltered area, in some parts of Scotland it won’t as it’s too cold), prolific self-seeder and when cut, it just grows more lovely stems…what’s not to love!

We leave ours once it has finished flowering as the seeds provide food for wildlife, but once the new greenery starts to show at the base it’s time to cut down the old stems…that’s a job for next week…Spring is coming and we can’t wait!

Our first ever Grow Your Own Cut Flowers course is now available to join.

Grow with me, Fay Gourlay, a cut flower farmer in East Lothian...from planning and prepping your cut flower patch or container garden, through how to sow each type of seed, the best ways to grow and nurture them up here in Scotland, how to overwinter them and ultimately how to cut and prepare them for bouquets, vases and arrangements...we will cover all types of cut flowers, annuals, bi-annuals and perennials, foliage, show stopers and we will also have Masterclass sessions on particularly popular cut flowers like Dahlias and Sweet Peas.

All of that in a 7 month course, packed full of more than 30 online tutorials and downloadable workbooks, a monthly e-book focussing on one articular cut flower and a monthly LIVE Q&A.

Plus we will have a dedicated Facebook group where you can connect with other course members and I will be on hand to answer any questions or help with any flower issues that may arise…

There will be bi-weekly online tutorials or workbook releases, a fortnightly newsletter and we will also have some sessions on the flower field itself, including arranging and wreath making. If you can't make it to the field, these will also be available online.

In terms of your time commitment, you can attend every online session, or catch-up when you can and learn at your own pace as each one will be recorded for you.
If you have any questions just let me know and you can sign-up to the course below:

Idea 4: Feed the Birds...

For this you will just need some lard, mixed seeds (or can just be sunflower seeds or peanuts, just not the salted or dry roasted varieties!) and an ice tray.

Melt the lard in a saucepan on the hob.

When it has completely melted, stir in the seeds.

When cooled, pour the mixture into an ice tray and pop in the freezer to set.

After 24 hours remove them from the freezer and turn them out of the ice tray. Tie string around each one and hang them from branches in your garden.
