🎉 Exciting Announcement: 2024 NN Prize Winners Revealed!

🏆 Joint First Prize Winners for 2024

NNCA is delighted to award the NN Prize 2024 to Kinga Kulzyc & Miami Mashigo, visual artists and graduates of the Fine Art Painting and Drawing degree programme at the University of Northampton. The prize-giving took place at Degree Show for the Faculty of Arts, Science and Technology Development Hub yesterday evening (20 June 2024)

* £350 Cash Prize goes to Kinga Kulzyc
* Professional Residency with £200 materials & travel budget & Professional studio visits from Curators & Artists (including Andy Holden) to Miami Mashigo

✨ Runners-Up: Ruby Tuesday, Heather Taylor-Watson & Melissa Stewart

The Prize was presented by NN’s Creative Producer Simon Wright & this year's judge was acclaimed Artist Andy Holden

The prize-giving event also featured speeches from the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Science and Technology Paul Smith.

Andy Holden commented on the prize:

" The show was incredible, with so much great work. It felt like walking around an exhibition, better than many MA shows I’ve seen. This prize… offers a small step forward, a bit of legitimacy…I chose Miami for the residency due to her provocative work with trash, reflecting on our precarious ecological moment. Kinga’s installation was thorough and personal, so I asked to split the prize with her … This talented year made my job difficult, and I’m grateful to have seen such wonderful work. Congratulations to all!" - Andy Holden

🏆 About the NN Prize:
The NN Prize is an annual award given to a student for an outstanding degree show presentation in the University of Northampton Fine Arts degree program. This prize highlights the exceptional quality of art education in Northampton, showcasing the town as a hub for artistic exploration, cultural engagement, and professional growth

Experience the wonderfully strange world of "Hermione: Kingdom of the Sick" by artist Andy Holden () who researched and developed this remarkable film during his residency at NN Contemporary Art in late 2022. The film premiered at The Museum of Everything in 2023 as part of a joint exhibition between Hermione and & Andy, Hermione's first post-humous presentation, and has won mass critical acclaim since. This film dives deep into the life of an extraordinary artist who was a prominent figure amongst Northamptonshire Artist groups, whose life and work were discovered in a local charity shop by Andy.

After the screening there will be a Q+A session with Andy led by writer & critic Tim Smith-Laing.

About the Film:

Intrigued by a collection of paintings and a self-published autobiography, Andy Holden embarks on a journey to uncover the enigmatic Hermione. Holden brings Hermione's story to life through animation, documentary, and speculation, exploring themes of illness, time, and artistry. Featuring Sarah Cracknell of Saint Etienne as Hermione's voice, with an original soundtrack by the band, this film is a poignant exploration of the human experience.

Mark your calendars and join us for an unforgettable evening. 🌟

🌟🎨 Happy from NNCA! 🎨✨

We're celebrating all the amazing female artists we've had the pleasure of working with, like Sam Gibson, whose artwork is featured here from the 2022 C2C Artist in Resience Exhibition at NN. Sam's unique blend of embroidery and painting helps her explore memories and interactions in a profound way.

We're also proud to highlight the C2C' Artist in Residence Project from 2022, where Lead Artist and Curator Emma Davies teamed up with Clare Abbatt, Priya Chohan-Padia, and Sam Gibson to empower women accessing services at C2C. Together, they engaged in outdoor art-making, fostering creativity and empowerment through diverse workshops.

C2C's Social Action Women's Centre in Northamptonshire provides vital support for women, offering a safe space for relaxation, activities, and self-improvement courses. They empower individuals to learn new skills and tackle challenges like debt and benefit issues, supporting them at every stage of the criminal justice system.

Stay tuned for the 2024 iteration, coming soon! 🌟
