Northwich Folk Club has been meeting (almost) every Friday since March 1977.

Our usual venue is Davenham British Legion Social Club, Firth Fields, Davenham, Northwich where we mix guest nights and singers' nights in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

This Friday (31st January) we are in the big function room at Davenham Royal British Legion for a Guest Night. Our guest will be Dave Boulton and supporting him will be Helianthus!.
Dave says "I’m a singer and song writer from Stoke On Trent. Some of you will know me from my days performing with my old mate Jeff Parton in our duo His Worship and The Pig. I’ve been asked to come back and sing some of the old songs again. I was delighted, and more than happy to oblige. I include some of my new songs in the set but they are still a mix of silly and serious songs."
Supporting Dave will be Helianthus (Helen, Helen and Ian), well known to follower of The Time Bandits! Helianthus will bring us a great selection from their repertoire of continental dance tunes!!

A rare appearance from me on facebook! Just wondering if anyone can recall a song I'm trying to remember. This is not a lyrics challenge, because, well, I can't recall any of the lyrics, never mind the tune or who sang it! Probably an emigration song, not 'Caledonia' but that sort of mode and possibly same era ie the younger days of Dougie McLean. There's a bit in it about looking forward with some optimism to the hills and landscape ahead and back with nostalgia to the landscape of home behind. For some reason I think it's about moving from Ireland to Scotland. Does that ring any bells with anyone please? Brenda

This Friday (10th January) we are in the big function room at Davenham Royal British Legion for our first Guest Night of 2025. Our guests will be The Time Bandits!!
Our friends, The Time Bandits are a Chester-based folk band who came together for the first time in 2001. Their repertoire mixes Renaissance and early dance music, particularly tunes from the John Playford collection, with traditional folk tunes and songs and an increasing proportion of music written by themselves.
Doors will be open at 7:30pm and the night will start at 8:00pm. Steve Wilde will be your host and Dave Vaughan and Pete Thompson will be supporting the Time Bandits. Looking forward to seeing you there!! – VERY MUCH!! Tickets are £9 for non-Members and £7 for club members.
Last week's lyrics challenge was "The Foggy Dew" Paul Lingard was first on the draw!
This week's challenge is another seasonal classic.

This Friday (20th December) we are in the big function room at Davenham Royal British Legion for our Christmas Party Singers' Night. Doors open at 7:00pm and festive Lasagne (Meat or Veggie) will be served at 7:30pm. The Singers' Night will start at 8pm-ish. Pete Thompson will be your host! It’s £5 entrance including a choice of meat or vegetable lasagne!

This Friday (29th November) we are in the big function room at Davenham Royal British Legion for a very special Guest Night. Our guest will be Jez Lowe ably supported by The Rattling Slats
Jez Lowe has long been one of the UK’s busiest folk performers, playing for audiences the world over. As BBC Radio DJ Mike Harding said recently, “No-one else writes or sounds like Jez Lowe”, and chances are, even if you’ve never heard the man himself, you’ll have heard his songs, sung at festivals, club-gigs, open-mikes or on CD, by the great and good, the professional and the enthusiast, the young and not-so-young. What higher accolade could a songwriter hope for?.
Jez will be supported by Club Favourite, Keith Price!! Keith is a multi-instrumentalist, well known on the Folk scene for his virtuoso guitar playing and diverse music styles.
