Vacancy for Chair and Treasurer...

From June 2024, the village hall requires a new chairperson and treasurer. The treasurer is perhaps more important than the chair for hiring the hall but both are integral to the smooth running of the village hall.

These are volunteer Trustee positions. Both involve a minimum of 4 meetings a year. The treasury role takes about an hour a week, while the chair involves a weekly visit for around the same timescale. The village hall is a registered charity.

You will not be on your own. There are roles for a vice chair and a secretary. The booking clerk takes care of the hall hire and there is a cleaner to maintain the hall. Also you will have the support of previous chairs and treasurers to guide you.

The hall is currently in good shape and ready for new people to take the reigns. Finances are also stable with a healthy booking hire.

I took the role of chair, with a team designed to keep the hall open, organised and set it up for a seamless handover. The team’s commitment was for one year only, particularly as I already have too many hats and it is unsustainable. Having accomplished what the team set out to do, I am confident in handing over the reigns to a new team.

The village hall Annual General Meeting is pencilled in for Monday 10th June 2024, when the Committee steps down and new Trustees are elected. The hall needs the Trustees to remain open for community and hire functions.

If you are looking for a way to become more involved in community and can commit to between one and 2 hours a week, I am happy to discuss further with you. Please do PM me for more information. Alternatively, you may wish to observe at our next committee meeting at the village hall on Monday 18th March 2024 @ 7:00pm

The main hall has had a floor reseal. The varnish was very smelly with eye-watering fumes, so apologies that we had to cancel some hires but the air was virtually unbreathable. We were also made aware that mats could not be used on the floor for one week, however we should all be back to normal service from 12th February 2024.

We hope you find the end result worth the inconvenience.

The village hall is having the main hall floor resealed. The work should be completed by Friday 2 February 2024 but we have been advised that we should give the floor time to harden and cannot put any mats down for one week. The committee were not aware of this until the last minute, so would like to apologise to those who had bookings for the week commencing 5th February and have had to cancel.

The upside is that we hope not to have to repeat this expensive exercise for many years; also the hall floor should look splendid.

Obviously we will still ask that sharp high heel shoes not be worn and that furniture is lifted and not scraped.

Thank you for your understanding.

The main hall floor is being resealed this week (from the 29th Jan). Activities in the club room should continue without interference.

Apologies for the inconvenience but this is essential maintenance.

New Years Eve Party at the village hall. Singer Alfie Osborn stepped into the breach where we were let down by a DJ on the morning of the party (we had booked them in September).

Forty adults plus children had a great time with a mix of live performance and DJ music.

The village hall is there to serve the community and too often those with young children have nowhere to go. Also the parties on offer are very expensive and miles away.

So a huge thanks to Alfie for filling in at the last minute and we would love to hear some feedback about the event and if you would consider doing it again next year.
