This January the Sprowston Parish Players are back with their annual pantomime production, this year being Jack and the Beanstalk
The story of our pantomime is a tale of giants and heroes. It features men dressed as women, and women masquerading as men.
Our pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk, presents a tale of good versus evil, where hope triumphs over adversity after danger and virtual despair.
Young Jack Diddit and his long-suffering mother, Dame Betty Diddit, live in a tiny cottage in the shadow of a terrible giant’s tyranny.
With the rent overdue, they have no choice but to sell their beloved cow, Cowasaki.
After tricking Jack into selling Cowasaki for a bag of worthless beans, the villainous giant's henchman Shifty Sid kidnaps the cow for his master's supper.
Will Jack be able to rescue Cowasaki and earn enough money to marry the Princess, will he defeat the evil giant, will there be enough ice cream in the interval, all these questions and many more will be answered.
Perhaps those beans aren't as worthless as they first seemed...
Pantomime is quintessentially a British tradition, as British as queuing, drinking tea or a good Indian curry.
So, embrace our traditions and keep them alive.
At SPP we have a great big heart, and we love nothing better than sharing it with you.
Please come and see us, you’ll have a fun filled experience.
Oh Yes You Will.

It was 25th years ago when a group of the congregation at St Cuthbert’s Church formed a drama group for the community of Sprowston, to include all ages.
The first production, at the end of January in 1993, was ‘The Wind in the Willows’.
Through the years we have also put on various plays, music halls and such like, and now present regular summer and Christmas concerts. In recent years we have had an all-purpose platform (stage), but in the beginning, we had to
build a stage out of large wooden locks for each production. It was all hand on deck, often on a very night. Luckily there were always members to provide hot drinks and biscuits. Having limited staging, even today, we have had to devise ingenious ways to design scenery and properties and find ways getting them on and off the sets. Now stage lighting has been installed in the church so there the need to hire and to spend hours fixing it in position ready for use.
We are affiliated to the National Operatic and Dramatic Association, which supports over 2500 amateur theatre groups throughout the UK.
With incredible support from the community, we have raised monies for charities with a
local connection, and the church.
