My parents found one of my old floral studies in their loft, and thought I might like it back. This is acrylic on canvas - and it took me a while to remember which was the right way up.

Been turning up several pairs of my dear old Grandad’s trousers - he’s lost 4 inches in height and had been wearing his signature ‘baggy trousers’ for too long. I’ve been worrying about him tripping down the stairs.

As you would imagine - 91 year old Royston was quite particular in how I should sew these (adding internal taping to stop puckering). So we discussed our methods - his being the correct one - as he’s been sewing clothes ‘since he was a 14 year old boy messenger.’ Turns out his traditional methods worked far better than mine - not that I’ll tell him!

VINTAGE CUSHIONS AND BENCH CUSHIONS

A little bit of sewing is always good therapy!
I’ve just finished making covers for four foam bench cushions. These have two strips of Velcro sewn on the bottom to hold them in place on wooden dining benches.
I’d also made two cushions for my Grandad’s very belated Christmas present. The pretty floral fabric had been in his airing cupboard for a few decades, so it’s lovely to see it finally put to good use, along with some handmade green piping to really bring out the colours.
