Introducing Head Chef Michelle! ✨
What got you into cooking, and what do you love most about it?
My mum. Cooking was always a fun activity in our house - making pancakes with disco music blaring or cutting our vegetables into fun shapes for our lunchboxes, food was always used to bring joy and show love. I’ve continued to bring that with me in my cooking and I love how food brings people together.
What’s your go-to dish to cook when you’re off the clock?
Spaghetti and a tomato sauce, tons of olive oil, parmesan, black pepper and chilli flakes
What’s one kitchen hack or secret you swear by?
I always microplane my garlic rather than mincing it - it’s so much quicker and I hate lumps of garlic
Fave restaurant experience?
Anything in the sun with a glass of something delicious and friends. I prefer a laidback meal to anything too fancy but the tasting menu at Social Eating House will always have my heart.
Funny kitchen story?
The power going down in a restaurant I worked in and having to do a full service on a tiny Konro grill with 4 chefs crowded around and the KP shining his phone torch over us for light. It didn’t feel that funny at the time but we were laughing by the end (ish).
Fave thing about working at G&S?
The variety of jobs we work on and mix of people you meet. And obviously the team!
What’s one thing most people don’t realize about the logistics side of the business?
Food actually takes time, people and money to make it. Catering can sometimes feel a bit faceless but there’s a hardworking team with a tight budget behind everything you eat.
