We'd like to say a huge thank you to the team over at Number One Sandwich Bar for organising some fab fundraisers as part of our pride celebration on the 14th of September!

On the day they will be offering a delicious homemade chicken curry and rice for £3.50 alongside their normal menu and will also be hosting a tombola, a cheesecake raffle and a raffle to win a grazing platter for 2!

They are situated just around the corner from where our main celebration is being held on Victoria Road so get yourself down there and be in with the chance to win these fabulous prizes all whilst helping to raise money for some incredibly important causes! All proceeds will be split equally between the Breast Institute and our chosen charity Mermaids!

What it means to be an ally is to sometimes stand up and speak out. Thank you Handmade Nottingham

Yesterday, a woman came into the shop, headed to the counter and told a member of staff that Le****ns make her sick and the usual "think of the children" bu****it. He rightly told her she makes him sick and to leave. 

When I was told what happened, it took me aback.  I've lived in and near the city for 20 years and had a shop in the city for 10 and, since moving to where we are now, we've become vocal about our values, and we've never knowingly had homophobic comments. I don't think Nottingham is free from homophobia, but I did hope that, because the city is welcoming to the LGBTQ+ community, it kept bigots quiet. I guess the riots made some people think now their voices can be heard. To those people, just no. No one wants to hear that. 

I took offense to this comment on behalf of the LGBTQ+ community but also personally. I don't talk openly about my sexuality because of my own personal reasons. I don't think anyone should feel like they have to declare their sexuality or gender to anyone if they don't want to/aren't ready. And what you do with your body is no one else's business. I will never understand why bigots are so interested in what other people are doing in their private lives 🤷‍♀️

This year, we're supporting 🏳️‍⚧️
Mermaids is a British charity that works with and supports trans and gender non-conforming young people and their families.

Mermaids aims to promote awareness and education surrounding trans people, as well as offering support to young people who identify as transgender, non-binary or gender non-conforming through helplines, support groups, and more.

Every year, Netherfield Pride donates any of its profits to charities that support the LGBTQ+ people in the UK. So far, we have supported and .

This year we have nominated Mermaids as our chosen charity because we believe it is vital to support young trans people in our community. As the people in power strip away the rights of young trans people, it is more important than ever to stand by them.

The past two years of Netherfield Pride have been a wonderful way to show support for LGBTQ+ people not just in Netherfield, but beyond.

We have seen so many young trans and gender non-conforming young people at Netherfield Pride, who have all been calling out for support in the Nottinghamshire area.

We hope that any funds we raise are
able to facilitate that.
