Still time to join us at World Day for Animals in Laboratories rally
Many excellent speakers - see World Day for Animals in Laboratories for details, both during the 1.30pm March and later back here at St John's Gardens, near #Liverpool Lime Street for campaign stalls and #FoodByVeggies & #foodnotbombs
It's been a busy day at Sumac Centre ready for the Earth First UK
Moot that we're hosting this weekend
We've got a gazebo city in the garden with 7 of our gazebos (inc Nottingham Green Festival ones) for workshops and camping, and a full field kitchen ready to feed 150 #foodbyveggies
Inside the newly insulated #SumacCentre there's a 2nd workshop space, bookshop, tea station, radical library (thanks Sparrows' Nest Library and Archive), freeshop, info exchange, an unfeasible supply of #SamosasForSocialChange & Sumac Sunday Brunch.
A sneak peak preview of @earthfirst_uk

'Veggies' Renault Master ZE Electric Van at Green Gathering
The van is actually on free loan to Veggies as part of Nottingham's Carbon Neutral 2028 Electric Van Experience.
We only have this for 3 months, so then it's sadly back to the diesel, with a borrowed Nissan Leaf EV for small events.
However it is not the appropriate van for Veggies as, with our 40 mile default distance to events, the range is not sufficient.
Whilst quoted as having a 122 mile range "Renault says the Master ZE has a āreal-worldā driving range of 75 miles from its 33kWh battery."
On our rigorous test run to the Green Gathering we peaked at 95ml displayed after full charge, but average 75-80. With 7kWh charge into 33kWh battery this makes a driving time of 15m/hr of charge (!), which takes 5hrs or 11 hrs on domestic supply.
Nevertheless we intend to persevere. The long charging time necessitates a change of mindset, slowing down one's pace of life, allowing time to visit sights whilst waiting for charge and, ultimately, continuing to work towards, or even trim, our 40 mile max distance to events that we cater.
The chances of us buying one are remote:
"The Renault Master ZE start from around Ā£64,500, which includes the Government's Ā£8,000 Plug-in Van Grant."
We are still raising funds for our catering trailer solar installation. In particular we could add Ā£750 to that target, to boost storage sufficient for the trailer solar to supplement charging of this, or other, EVs.

We are grateful for the backup of Sustainable Transport consultant and EV expert Francis Scarborough Smith who has evaluated the limitations of the vehicle and given endless real time support to work though 'range anxiety' and charging breakdown issues.
