In January, forests quietly hum with unseen activity, storing energy for the vibrant awakening of spring. Beneath the frosty soil, roots draw in nutrients and moisture, feeding the trees and plants that appear dormant on the surface.

Trees conserve their energy, while deep within their trunks, sugars produced during the warmer months are carefully used. Even the smallest organisms play their part—microbes in the soil break down organic matter, enriching the earth for the growing season ahead.

Though the forest seems still, every element is preparing, conserving, and building the resources needed to fuel the burst of life that spring will bring.
