This half of the event is open for all to enjoy! This is the time for a fun family-friendly atmosphere - great opportunities to play & learn with those young and of all ages.

Our games teach important values such as strategy, cooperation, friendly competition, focus, sportsmanship and so much more - all whilst nurturing quality family time in a lovely location.

For a longer session, 12+ guests are allowed to be present for the entire day, being mindful that the earlier session is to be kept family-friendly

RookHart’s back with our most popular event activity session once again…

The Introduction to RPG’s Beginners Sessions hosted by Al H! (for ages 12+)

We’ve had an incredible turnout for the RPG introduction sessions so far with so many of you getting through the gateway to the world of Roleplaying Games (RPG) and off into your own worlds of magic, mystery and adventure 🏞

RPG’s have been psychologically proven to help develop so many skill sets including - social, critical thinking, maths, creativity, cooperation, emotional intelligence, strategy, patience and more - in kids, adults and elders alike.

Though getting down to the simple function of what all RPG’s exist for - it’s an opportunity to escape into the world of your own, collaborative design with like minded friends and new people to the table; all in the aim to enjoy a joint story experience where everyone is able to participate in making some truly memorable gameplay moments and characters of legend ⚔

So the table is open for all guests to get an adventure going, in the good hands of our special guests RPG guide and game master - Al H.

To confirm your place simply:

▶ Go to the RookHart page,
▶ Hit the blue ‘Sign Up’ button near the top (this will take you to the RH website)
▶ Choose the time slot you’d like to play in (2pm, 4pm or 7pm)
▶ Fill out your details
▶ And get your ticket to play! (it may say ‘buy’ tickets, but the session tickets are all free themselves with the only price being the entry fee to the RH event itself)

Each session has space for between 2-4 players and will last up to 2 hours long and will include a short break. The time slots available throughout the day are:

▶ 2pm - Dungeons & Dragons
▶ 4pm - Dungeons & Dragons
▶ 7pm - Star Wars

The deadline for signing up to these sessions is 7pm on Wednesday 26th, so please get in touch to confirm your player space by then or we may not be able to get you into the session.

*⚠* Every participant/player must be at least 12 years or older and must still pay the RH event admittance price of £3-£5, however this does give access to the full 11hr RH Event. There are no additional fees for joining in the session. *⚠*

With all that said, we wish all RPG participants a great, playful and awesome experience in the world of pure imagination, with your fellow band of character creations journeying into worlds unknown and legends yet untold 🧭

So we now have come to terms that we are going to be working with a different company to finally get these rewards made and sorted for our very patient and supportive guests who attended most of our first 6 events.

We realise it's been a massive wait for those who rightly deserve these awards and we'd like to fully and properly apologise for this process taking so long.

It's been a massive learning curve for us and there have been a lot of other challenges we've faced for RookHart and in our own lives too, but we're still committed to making this project become the best it can possibly be for everyone to enjoy.

All your support throughout our formative years is so very much appreciated and we hope that we can use moments like these to prove that we are dedicated to correcting ourselves and the project when the mistakes and challenges arise.

Welcome to Spring 🌱🍃🪻

Now that the cold, dark winter nights are coming to an end, it's time for the season of renewal and new growth. It’s beautiful to already see so many of the signs of life returning like - snow drops flowering, bird calls singing and just seeing more people out and about around Oban.

We always love greeting all our guests to RookHart, it's always really lovely to meet new people who are joining in for the 1st time, but we massively appreciate all those in our loyal and supportive community who have helped us keep the project going through the dark and cold winter nights 💙

As mentioned earlier, we are taking a break next month in April and returning on May 3rd. However, this is by no means a break for RH, as we're gonna be gearing up to work behind the scenes to really take RH to the next level!

Working on improvements such as - a new menu, an improved flag system, becoming an official community enterprise, more and more varied events, working with more local organisations and loads more!

Regardless of all that though, we intend to never lose sight of what RH is achieving right now:

Being a safe social space for those who attend.

And we share that honour with everyone involved in the project and events - thank you 💜

A 3 Month Donation Thank You Mega-Post

It’s been a long time coming, but we’re finally back on track with our donation gratitude posts. We are truly grateful to everyone who has supported RookHart from the very beginning, helping us build it into what it is today. Your kindness and generosity have made an incredible difference, and we can’t wait to share the results with you—both in what we’ve achieved so far and in the exciting growth still to come.

From our 1st year, we have learned so much, and we intend to use this learned knowledge to make our present project as good as it can be.
We've added a lot of scope to the project in this new year already, and though it is mainly work behind the scenes, it's meant we've had to calculate and negotiate a healthy work/life balance with ourselves to make sure the work gets done, but that it doesn't end with us burning out - which I'm sure is a tale as old as time when it comes to passion led projects like RookHart.

To conclude, we realise that we may not hit every target we set or deadline we mark down, but we are incredibly grateful for all the help & support we receive, regardless of whether we do stay on track or lose focus or have to slow the pace down due to our own life complications. We are so thankful, humbled and refuelled by all your continued belief in us - and RookHart simply would not exist if not for the community it exists to serve, and in turn the community that gives it a purpose.

Ready to join Rookhart and truly discover the Realm of Wayward Games?
We’re on the lookout for would-be Rook-Starters to join the team and help us elevate our potential, by bringing out the best in our events and community enterprise - for all the people of Oban and beyond!

You too can be behind the making of this amazing, up-and-coming social venture! And there’s much more to RookHart than just games. What we’re working to build is an Oban-based, community-creativity centre, a place where people can learn, play, achieve, compete and relax through the many mediums we hope to accommodate. Mediums such as many different forms of arts & crafts, puzzle completing and creating, reading in relaxing rooms and spaces, outdoor experiences like big games and big art projects and more than anything; a safe social space for all, where everyone can feel safety and excitement or anywhere in between, whenever they need a break from whatever life brings.

We believe that board games are the starting key to achieving all of this and bringing our aspirations to life. There are plenty of other game-based creative activities that we’re hoping to work up to as well, such as - board game creation, variation, crafting, curation, publishing, academia and mental well-being + so much more we’ll discover along the way.

But the games don’t have to be your reason for being a part of Rookhart, we’re just hoping to find individuals who are interested in making a positive impact in the local community of Oban and eventually Argyll and further.

So early in the year and yet it really does seem to zoom by so quickly! And though it is still so early in the year, it’s already been full of so many twists and turns for us at RookHart HQ. Much like all of Oban we had our own difficulties with the power outage, but we hope everyone has recovered as well as possible. These types of dangers are indeed alarming, however, they can sometimes really bring communities together, and a very beautiful aspect of Oban can be found in its care of the community - and in these scary situations like a storm, it’s more essential than ever.

With all that said, it’ll be lovely to regroup with you all for some recreational relaxation at this Feb ‘25 Board Game Gathering - All the best to everyone, we wish you a super Saturday and a Fabulous February in whichever way you are able to enjoy it best 🌟

⚠ Board Game Day Event Page Date Change ⚠

Hello everyone, just to say we've had to very temporarily take down the FB event page for our events in February and March as we realised that we got the event date wrong for February which is on:
- Saturday 8th February 2025
And NOT the 1st.

Sorry for any confusion caused, we almost completely lost our sanity when we first figured out our mistake 😅

But now it's corrected and our next event is definitely happening on

None of us knew just what our project could look like in a year from when we first started, yet that's exactly where we were are now. 1 year ago today RookHart opened its doors in our first flight of a board game event, and since then we've always received the warm welcome from the community of Oban, Argyll and people visiting from all around the world who have joined in at the RookHart Halls of Gaming.

Within our 1st year we've been so fortunate to have worked alongside so many genuinely inspirational community organisations from in and around Oban, such as:

Our Beginner RPG Starter Sessions Return!
With the welcome return of our special guest RPG master - Al Hartle
(These sessions are currently only available to 12+ players)

These sessions provide a great opportunity to get into the world of RPG's and begin your journey into any and all the fantastical worlds you could literally ever imagine!

As per our last RPG event sessions, equipment will be provided - all you need to bring is the openness and excitement of your mind to really bring these sessions alive. To begin Al has provided a choice of 2 well-known worlds for the RPG's setting, those being the world of Dungeons & Dragons and the other being Star Wars, to help beginners who may be familiar with these concepts. However if you're looking for a journey into a whole new world then look no further than Al's very own 'Action and Adventure' setting - a concept brought to life by Al himself for anyone wanting to explore pastures new for their start into the world of RPG's!

We have 3 available sessions throughout the event,
each with 4 available player slots, starting at:

◻️ 2.00pm - Dungeons & Dragons
◻️ 4.00pm - Action & Adventure
◻️ 6.30pm - Star Wars

Each session will last around 90mins-2hrs which includes a break.

The tickets for these booked sessions are entirely free however the standard entrance fee (£3-£5) for the event still applies to gain access to these booked sessions.

✨ Thank You for 2024 ✨

We couldn't have ever imagined how this year would've gone but we are so grateful for everything it's brought to us, and we hope we can properly and authentically relay that it wouldn't have been anywhere near the level that RookHart is now.
If it weren't for the kindness, support and above all belief that so many of you have shown - in welcoming us in to Oban, into your lives and into the community.

We also would really like to thank all of the wonderful community organisations that have invited us to work and learn from them at such an early stage of our existence as RookHart. We appreciate all that you've given and shown us and we're planning on creating a much bigger appreciation video next month when we properly wrap up the 1st year of RookHart, a year on from when when we began with our 1st event this past January.

This half of the event is open for all to enjoy! This is the time for a fun family-friendly atmosphere - great opportunities to play & learn with those young and of all ages.

Our games teach important values such as strategy, cooperation, friendly competition, focus, sportsmanship and so much more - all whilst nurturing quality family time in a lovely location.

We ask all guests to respect this session by keeping language, actions and everything else safe for all ages

Gives a space for games of a higher challenge whilst still supplying some truly special gateway games to play no matter your level or experience. We don’t believe that anyone ages out of board games and we’re prepared to prove it!

Bring along your mates for some truly top-quality, unforgettable moments of madness to commit to memory.

For a longer session, 12+ guests are allowed to be present for the entire day, being mindful that the earlier session is to be kept family-friendly

Can you keep our seas safe from the ever looming threat of the algal bloom?

Join us for this uniquely special opportunity to have your mark on the creation of this board game sensation!

The game in question sets the scene around a sudden algal bloom in the rocky waters of the Hebrides. Operate the scientific robots of The Scottish Association for Marine Science to investigate and save the seafarm in Ardmucknish bay!

From the creative mind of Phil Peterson along with the support of SAMS, comes a game that promises insight into the world of these water roaming robots. 'Drones & Droids' is brilliantly packed with so many real life tales from the SAMS crew experience and the game really seats its players in many situations that can be all in a daily mission for the SAMS roboteers.
Join us on our mission where you’ll need to journey through the surface, swim through the shallows, investigate the depths and map out the seabed to get all the information you need to help SAMS save the seas.

We have 4 available sessions throughout the event, each with 5 available player slots, starting at:

We do have a RookHart copy of the game for plays outside the booked sessions however each booked session shall be accompanied by the game creator himself - Phil Peterson.

All who participate will be aiding the game towards it’s goal of eventual full release production, and we’re genuinely so excited to be able to help out Phil & SAMS as they do such important work and research towards helping us understand our oceans, seas, lochs and waters. It is truly an honour to be able to help them achieve their goal of helping people understand their findings and experience through the magic of this exciting game of 'Drones & Droids'.

The tickets for these booked sessions are entirely free however the standard entrance fee (£3-£5) for the event still applies to gain access to these booked sessions.

★ RookHart Events 1-6 ★ A Beginning of Playful Purpose - Thank You 🙏 Thank You For: Providing a presence of people power for our previous playful 6 game days - we’re genuinely so amazed at how great they’ve all been and the genuinely warm & welcoming environment that has been grown by everyone at our events - Thank you - this is what RookHart dreams to be - for any & all 💜 We’ve compiled a video of some of our most enjoyed photos, moments, donations and reviews. Yet all the aspects of your support have given our project such validation in its core reason for being - for peaceful play within our community. Please also join us in giving a massive thank you to our lovely volunteer team who have helped us keep our RookHart events flowing so smoothly and give us a chance to learn so much about how we actually want RookHart to function to be best for everyone. Thank you so much for all your time, patience, creativity and kindness in helping us fly our flag in the face of all the challenges that come with starting a community project - Thank you 🩵 And to the venues that gave RookHart hope and a home - you gave us a chance when we had no idea how any of this would work and still allowed us to try & fail at times, so that we may work through our limitations, lack of experience and ever worried and doubtful minds so that we may work through all of this and succeed.
