** SARAH SAYS ** When it’s Winter and the light is about to drop and it’s cold outside I’m conscious of working quickly whilst still delivering an amazing gallery to my couples. 📸

Over the years I’ve developed a way to get more photos from each part of the day whilst working within time and light constraints. It may be from changing angle slightly, a different lens or focal length or even the tone of my voice. It all comes from experience, being intuitive and listening to what’s important to my clients. 🌟

I can’t wait to put this gorgeous wedding into an album. It’s going to look amazing. 🤩

Remember, the most difficult part isn’t getting your photographs taken - it’s choosing the photos for your album!!

Michaela was a bridesmaid for one of my weddings last year whose sister and cousins weddings I also shot. I absolutely love being invited back to see my girls getting married and bumping into past clients again. So here’s some highlights from Michaela & Chris’s gorgeous Festive Wedding at Castle Leslie. I love Castle Leslie throughout the year but it really is a cosy winter venue with its open fires and unique interiors. Best steak I ever tasted too 😋

To be honest, I love shooting at Castle Leslie anytime of the year but think it’s particularly beautiful in Winter time with its big roaring fires 🔥 and interior full of character and history.

One of the greatest compliments is being invited back to shoot a wedding for someone who’s seen me in action before or like, in Michaela’s case who’s been in front of my camera before. 🤩 📸

Michaela was a bridesmaid last September at a wedding I shot for a bride whose sister and cousins wedding I photographed (in the same chapel!) I’ve made that sound overly complicated but hopefully you get my drift! It’s actually pretty simple really. You do an amazing job for a couple, take great photographs and treat them, their family and their guests with respect and care and you get invited back for more.

I know some people can feel weird about getting the same suppliers as their friends or family but I say it doesn’t matter ✌️ There’s no greater testament than word of mouth. Every couple is individual and no matter if I’ve been in the same house before or at the venue multiple times your wedding photographs will be consistently beautiful whilst being individual to you. Impressive all year round, it’s almost a rite of passage to get a shot at the iconic gates at Tankardstown House! I loved the elegant simplicity of Kate & Ronan’s details. Green and white colour palette with accents of gold ( those shoes!!) and that double breasted velvet jacket… 🖤

Do they get much better than this? Love a ‘pop’ of colour in the bouquet. Absolutely gorgeous flowers by 🤩 We have such a source of creative, talented, passionate wedding vendors in this country. I LOVE Bridal Prep. Here’s why:

1. I get to know your family and wedding party before ceremony - it’s amazing how quickly we can connect and work together during the morning prep. This establishes trust = great photos

2. Soak up the excitement before the wedding - there’s a unique energy at the bridal prep which cannot be replicated later

3. Saves time later - it’s a great opportunity to get some shots in the bag eg you and your parent/s / bridesmaids etc 📸

4. Your hair and make up are fresh- you’re glowing - great opportunity for some gorgeous portraits before you get hitched 💄

5. Details - there are usually lots of personal details which can add character and feeling to your wedding album eg photos, flat lays etc

6. The house or prep room (if getting ready in hotel) is an indoor location which is not affected by bad weather ☔️

Make sure you:

1. Get ready in a room with lots of soft natural light flooding in and preferably a neutral palette

2. Don’t leave you hair and makeup last

3. Follow the timeline so you are ready on time for some gorgeous portraits and leaving the house relaxed

4. Have your dress hanging up along with any details to be photographed

5. Have someone designated to help you (usually most organised bridesmaid) and keep you relaxed

6. Eat your breakfast- Hangry brides don’t work 😡

7. Go to the toilet - you’d be surprised how many brides forget to go to the toilet before they put their dress on!!

One of my fave locations for getting ready photos is the bridal suite which has soft natural light flooding in, beautiful furnishings, loads of space ( you take over the whole top floor of the house!) You can even watch your guests arrive as you get ready!

It’s weird but I always know what shots are going to be black and white before I even shoot them!!! There’s something so timeless about black and white. If you hadn’t already noticed, I’m a BIG fan. Here’s some other benefits of black and white photos:

1. Timeless- There’s a classic, elegant quality to black and white photos that will stand the test of time.

2. Raw Emotion: Black and white is a powerful way to convey emotions and capture details like tears.

3. Light- Photography is basically painting with light. Black and white photography helps exaggerate the highlights and shadows creating depth and showing detail eg in your dress

4. Storytelling: Without the distraction of colour, black and white photos can help tell a story.

5. Impact: There’s something impactful about black and white photos. They make you stop and look.

6. Album: Black and white photos and pages in your wedding album can add interest and variety.

So there you have it! A variety of black and white photographs throughout your wedding gallery adds variety, interest and impact. I also love black and white photographs printed and framed in a low profile Matt black frame. Timeless and Priceless if you ask me. What’s your favourite black and white photo from your wedding?

Quite possibly one of THEE best recessionals I’ve ever seen 💃 . The bride and groom were greeted by the New Brass Kings 🎺🎺 straight after the ceremony who paraded the wedding party back to the garden house for the drinks reception 🥂 .

I’ve been harping on recently about getting away from the ceremony early if you want to spend more time with your guests later on. This was a wonderful, exhilarating way to do it and set the party atmosphere for the rest of the day. I’m glad we were lucky to get the weather to experience this wonderfully talented bunch and soak up their good vibes 😎 🙌. We had everything from David Bowie to The Weekend 🎵

THIS could probably be THEE perfect setting for your outdoor wedding. We’ve NEVER had to go to Plan B here at the gorgeous Temple House in Sligo. The terraces allow for a dramatic entrance and the longest aisle EVER (soak it up!) The situation allows soft sun ☀️ to come in from behind the tall trees 🌲 showering your guests with warm light and creating a flattering, romantic back light for the couple. Photographers dream!! 😉 📸

I wanted to show off the back 🎀 of this fabulous dress whilst keeping the neutral tones and palette of the overall wedding.

With the rain ☔️ coming in I had to think quickly and I love the atmosphere it created in the background. Such a treat to have a beach like this with walking distance of the venue 🏝️ 🌧️

It’s wonderful to see more couples deciding to do a first look before their wedding ceremony👏 . I’ve shot well over 700 weddings at this stage in my career and I can honestly say I’ve NEVER had embraces like this at the top of the aisle.
