We often get asked how many flowers are in a DIY bucket, and we say roughly between 60 and 80 stems, or enough to fill at least ten jam jars, but it can hard to visualise, so we thought we’d share a video of one of our buckets for a bride that had requested a strong pastel mix.

What’s in today’s bouquets? This is something we get asked a lot so we are going to post more about the contents of our arrangements. Today we have the most amazing smelling homegrown mint, partnered with our own Allium, Broom, Ranunculus, Senecio and Anemone. Then from the market, as it’s a bit to soon for our own we have Peonies, Roses, Snapdragons, Tanacetum, chrysanthemum, Stocks, Sweet Will’s and Thlaspi.
Let’s talk Gent’s flowers, we often talk about bouquets, so we thought it was time the men got a look in. Buttonholes need to made using flowers that will stand being out of water, and also getting knocked about a bit during all the hugging that tends to go on at a wedding. They need to be the tougher varieties. We tend to pick a small selection of mixed flowers that match those from the bouquets. We always make them on the natural stem then they can be kept in water until the last minute, before a quick pat dry and pinned into place, usually on the left hand side of the jacket. We always give Groom’s the option of a larger version from the rest of the wedding party, it’s a roughly 50/50 split on if they do or dont.
Of course buttonholes can be worn by female members of the bridal party too, but the ladies tend to opt for a corsage ( a little bit bigger and fastened with a magnet as well as a pin to take the weight of delicate fabrics).
It’s Earth Day today and this year’s theme is planet over plastic. We thought it was a good opportunity to explain how we are trying to reduce our use of plastic. All of our bouquets including bridal bouquets and bunches of flowers come wrapped in brown paper, we have completely cut out our use of cellophane. We have also reduced our use of floral foam, we haven’t cut it out completely as there are some designs we just haven’t found a suitable alternative too, but when we do use it, we use the bio foam which isn’t perfect, but certainly better than the traditional type. We plant a lot of our seeds into plastic trays but we’ve reused them now for over ten years, and we will continue to use them until they are no longer useable, then we will move entirely over to soil blockers. We are not perfect, but we believe by making a few manageable changes, they can add up.

Doesn’t a bit of sunshine make you feel so much happier?
Mother’s Day for us in the UK is super early this year, it’s next weekend. We still have a few slots left for orders. Head over to our website if you’d like to treat your Mum to some lovely fresh flowers.
I don’t know what has happened to the terrible rain we were forecast for today, but I am certainly not complaining, it’s given us a great morning for planting out.
Valentines Day - 5 days to go.
We don’t really do red roses, we prefer to stick with a lovely mixture of flowers. If this is what your other half loves to, please head over to our website to order as soon as you can, as we can only do limited numbers and once they’re gone, they’re gone.
We are very aware that you may be struggling right now with the cost of living. We also know all our business costs are rocketing, we didn’t want to have to increase our prices, but in order to keep the business going we have had no option but to reassess the price of everything we offer. However we also really wanted to find a new offering, something that wasn’t just a bunch of flowers, but a lovely thoughtful gift at a realistic price point. That’s why we are introducing our bud vases. The set in a little wooden crate are £25 including local delivery and a gift card, and the individual coloured vases come in 3, 5 or 7’s and start from £30 with local delivery and a card included, all can be ordered via the website.
