Greenhouse Update

The moody sky is the perfect backdrop for the greenhouse and lemon tree this evening!
The greenhouse is abundant with ripening tomatoes and we even have some lovely flowers on the aubergine plants who I really did think were going to die as they were slightly ropey when initially planted.

The cucumber plant has been cut back by Mumma Wills as it was taking over the greenhouse. Personally I think she went too far and now it looks a little sick however she disagrees (who doesn’t love a heated discussion about cucumbers πŸ˜‚). It does have a few little flowers so hopefully we will see a few more cucumbers soon!

The tomato plants have fallen all over the place and will need to be posted up again. Maybe some garden string is needed!!!! The beef tomatoes are HUGE and are ripening day by day.

The lemon tree is sat at the front of the greenhouse to protect is from the wind which comes from the field behind the garden! WHAT CAN I SAY ABOUT THIS LEMON TREE!!!!! She won’t die, she won’t live, she just exists. I have had her for over 4months now and nothing has really happened. I have faffed and fussed and she has literally everything she should need to grow and yet she just sits there in a miserable existence 😩
I will keep you all updated on her progress (if she eventually makes any!)

I have 8 pots of these beautiful plants which will be available end of August/beginning of September right in time to plant out! If you would like to reserve a pot or for more information please DM.

Sundays spent right…
………………………………………….
Myself and Mumma Wills spent out Sunday sauntering around - what a place!!! It is the most magical and beautiful nursery I have ever been too and don’t even start me on the smell! 🀀
…………………………………………..
After so much deliberation between three different roses; Olivia Austin, Thomas A Beckett and Princess Alexandra I finally picked Princess Alexandra because she is most suited to what I want right now! She is going to sit outside the back door so you get the sweetest aroma as you as you enter and leave. I will 100% be purchasing the Olivia Austin and Thomas A Beckett in the future!!!

Guys if you do nothing else this summer then visit here they also serve the best tea and cake!

One excellent way to reduce waste in the garden is to reuse your seedling containers and nursery pots! This applies to ones you intentionally purchased for starting seeds, or any containers you bring plants home in from the local garden center – which you hope to keep and use again. If we are going to reuse these things, properly sanitising supplies and tools between use or seasons is an important step to keep your plants healthy and disease-free! ...............................................
My method of sanitation is using a staple in any pantry/cupboard; White Wine Vinegar!!

πŸƒSTEP ONE - Clean away any old compost in the trays/pots and leave to dry!

πŸƒ STEP TWO - Fill a spray bottle with undiluted White Wine Vinegar (I got mine from Aldi!) Spray the dry trays all over and leave to sit for 20minutes.

πŸƒ STEP THREE - Wipe or rinse trays/pots. This is optional however I prefer to rinse mine as the vinegar is acidic and I don’t want it to break down the plastic and cause it to become brittle.

These trays are now prepped and ready for my to sow my biennial seeds tomorrow morning!................................................
Ofcourse there are other methods of sanitation however I find this is cheap and easy so this is my preferred, though I always crave Fish & Chips afterwards.... 🎣

We LOVE strawberries, that’s why this year we decided to plant a long yielding crop. We want strawberries throughout the season. After a little research we purchased three varieties from Marshall’s a early, main and late................................................
Strawberry Vibrant (Early) – It has beautiful rich red berries, a superb taste and is a high yielding early strawberry. It crops from May and often again in September. (not that any strawberries have actually produced yet...)................................................

Strawberry Marshmello (Main) – Described by gourmet chef Raymond Blanc as β€œthe sweetest strawberry I have ever tasted!” They are at their best when harvested in June and July. (Our first strawberries and the one in the photo).................................................

Strawberry Malwina (Late) – This strawberry produces a deliciously sweet, dark red fruit. They are also vigorous and wilt tolerant and ready for harvest in August................................................
The roots arrived April and looked in pretty good shape which I then planted into a container I brought of EBay which is okay but I will be searching for a new container for next year, this one seems top heavy. I would really love an Agriframe - plants are easier to pick, there are no weeds, no soil borne diseases, no slugs and no need to straw under the fruit. It may have to go on the wish list for now!...............................................
Overall the Marshallo was delicious and very juicy although Mumma W commented she felt it may of needed an extra couple of day ripening, next time I will just have to not be so keen!...............................................

What a week...................................................
After an incredibly busy week for us both it was so lovely to a actually take time for lunch, go outside and take a walk around the garden. When I walk around I always notice something news that’s what makes gardens so magical. It’s living and breathing and always growing. Today’s discovery came in the form of a Dog rose...............................................
Rosa canina/ Dog Rose/Dog berry or Witches’ briar are a familiar, scrambling beauty that adorns hedgerows with its pale pink flowers. Dog rose clasps on to other shrubs with curved spines to grow.

It is best seen in flower in May and June with fruit ripening around September and October...............................................

The dog rose is a common symbol in medieval heraldry. It has a less regal connotation in Germany where it is linked to the Devil and its fruits were said to be used by fairies to make themselves invisible.

The root of a dog rose was thought to be able to cure the bite of a wild dog. (Thankfully the Head Garden is too lovely to do any biting so we have no use for it!)...............................................
It was just so lovely to see the busy bees working their magic.

year I am definitely going to be more prepared and make a note to give it some rose fertiliser in early spring and I will continue to dead head the flowers................................................

The Head Gardener wish you all a Good Morning and wants to show you her Marigolds. She is very proud of them! β˜€οΈ

Observations from this evenings Friday Feed.... 🧐.............................................
πŸ₯ΈThe oriental pink poppy is beginning to blossom and she is a beaut! Hopefully she will soon be followed by her little friend.
πŸ₯ΈThe little white Lupin is looking terribly sad compared to her mates and I don’t know why? She has had a good feed so hopefully this will perk her up.
πŸ₯ΈThe sassy cosmos are coming on well.
πŸ₯ΈHostas are rampant and loving their best lives.
πŸ₯ΈI can see the first few strawberries, this linked with the incredible tennis match happening between Nadal and Djokovic is making me excited for
πŸ₯ΈI don’t know why Mumma W planted so many tomato plants, the picture is only half of them. Tomorrow chutney for Christmas.................................................

β€œLove is the flower you’ve got to let grow.” – John Lennon..............................................
Remember I went to see my friends get married on Saturday.... well here are (by very kind permission of ) pictures of her simply gorgeous flowers!
From the dried petal confetti to the bouquet the flowers were amazing! .............................................
Floral displays in the church were designed and created by Alison’s Mum and friends of her local Woman’s Institute (go team WI). The beautiful bouquets were designed and created by who I would highly recommend following on Instagram. .............................................
Have you ever seen a happier couple of their wedding day!!! Swipe to see the joy!.............................................
Congratulations once again Mr & Mrs Bowker!!

P.S did you know it’s young farmer tradition to do a pitch fork guard of honour for any ex young farmer on their wedding day!

FUNGUS ALERT 🚨

So this afternoon I was just admiring my plants when I spotted that my sunflowers were looking a tad depressed! On further inspection the leaves seemed to be covered in small black spots.

After much googling it was a toss up between Rust or Fungus! I even tweeted the legend that is BBC Radio 2’s Terry Walton and he replied 😍 what a babe.

Turns out indeed it was fungus and that I needed to remove the infected leave to put a stop to the spread! I also made a dash to my local Dobbies and picked up a bottle of Fungus Clear Ultra.

A good spray later and I am much calmer. I will repeat the treatment in 2 weeks... fingers crossed it works! I will ofcourse keep you all updated. Thankfully these are my own plants and not products for sale.

An early start this morning up to our local Car Boot at Chirk. Reasearxh purposes soon got pushed to the side and I couldn’t resist a bargain! Two great planters...... now what’s to plant in them?!

🌺I am thinking tumbelina in the old chimney pot!

🌸 Some tlc for the system and then filled with some lovely annuals!!!

Who else spends their evening researching flowers.... πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈ..............................................
These gorgeous Aquilegias or affectionately known as Granny’s Bonnet have just suddenly appeared in our garden. According to Gardeners World they self-seed readily, and look wonderful naturalised amongst shrubs and roses, and grow well in shade.............................................
At the end of summer once the flowers have died back and the seed pods become prominent you can collect the seeds which is what I fully intend to do and sow into trays.
Will take a video of the collection so watch this space!

How it all began...🌸🌺🌻
******************************
Gardening to me has always been an effort and extremely overwhelming, especially with my large garden. There has always been a lot of green space but with no substance to it. The generic maintenance was always carried out but nothing spectacular.
*******************************
In March this year a transformation began, I got some seeds from my local home store and began to grow and discovered the wonder that can be found at the bottom of your garden. Since then I have been fully hooked and been a green fingered gremlin!
********************************
A visit to a small nursery have me the inspiration to start my own small nursery and sell the plants via social media and outside my house. Working from home allows me to slowly and carefully nurture my plants. I want people to discover the love of gardening as I have and that it’s not difficult or overwhelming. I want to educate as well as producing healthy and fairly priced annuals and perennials. With a lot of help with from my lovely mummy!
*******************************
We are due to start trading from October with my wonderful Pumpkins! (I promised to grow my god daughter one and now it’s got out of hand 🀣). In the meantime I will be posting about my garden generally and showing you how I am continually developing my own outdoor space!

Wish us luck πŸ€žπŸ»πŸ€
